#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Trip Back to 1853! 🩰🌸

Welcome, lovelies, to another enchanting edition of my Ballet Tutu History blog! This week, I'm thrilled to be whisking you all away to the Parisian springtime of 1853! Oh, the cobblestone streets, the scent of fresh croissants, and the exquisite elegance of the era - what a delightful time to be alive, wouldn't you say?

As a time-travelling ballerina with a passion for pink and all things tutu-licious, my week wouldn't be complete without a little trip down memory lane, and this week, 31st May 1853 is our destination! This was the era when ballet truly began to take on the form we know and love today!

Now, on 31st May 1853, there wasn't exactly a grand, historical event for the world of ballet. But this is a period in time that's brimming with fascinating details about the tutus of the era, and the exciting innovations that were about to reshape the very fabric (pardon the pun!) of ballet itself!

Remember, in my little world, history is a never-ending parade of gorgeous frocks, fabulous costumes, and the ever-evolving ballet tutu! And it's these delightful details that I love to share with all of you!

Imagine, if you will, a Parisian salon filled with the most delightful array of silk, velvet, and tulle. This is the world of Marie Taglioni - a ballet superstar who's set the world on fire with her grace and beauty. It's during this period that the ballet tutu we know today, the romantic tutu, was starting to take centre stage, making a graceful transition from the bulky, layered gowns of previous eras.

Just think, darling, all this elegance and refinement, crafted with meticulous skill to highlight the ballerina's beauty, agility and grace, all born from a love of art and a passion for perfection! Isn't it just magical?

Oh, but speaking of beauty, and darling, did I tell you about the delightful Grande Danseuse by Marius Petipa? Can you even imagine a performance titled "Grande Danseuse"?? The title alone oozes an irresistible elegance and sophistication! And don't even get me started on the ethereal tutus and dazzling costumes! I can practically smell the musk and the lavender from those delightful Victorian-era garments!

For those of you new to my Ballet Tutu History, a big warm welcome! Remember, we're on a journey through time to discover the inspiring, wonderful and often, delightfully funny evolution of the ballet tutu. We'll be delving into the world of designers, techniques, materials, and those fabulous, iconic moments that changed the course of ballet history.

I adore those Victorian eras, where so many delightful traditions and societal expectations provided a charming canvas for the tutus of the time. The sheer romance of it all! Imagine attending a theatre performance and gazing at the stage, filled with ladies dressed to the nines and their perfectly executed chassé steps. What a delight!

For me, time travel is a magical blend of performance, shopping and exploration. And just imagine my delight at the glorious fashions that await! I'll have to confess, finding a chic Victorian era hat shop is truly the icing on the cake when it comes to time travel!

And the performances, my darlings, oh, the performances! They are truly a symphony of elegance, beauty and a dazzling blend of artistry. Seeing those perfectly formed tutus in motion, each swish and twirl a masterpiece in itself! It's simply divine!

As a time-travelling ballet enthusiast, I travel across the decades funded by my dance performances! Each performance brings me one step closer to my next historical exploration, and that keeps me on my toes (another delightful pun!).

And yes, darling, I know that sounds incredibly dramatic - a tutu-wearing ballerina who time travels! But you know, the world needs a little whimsy and a whole lot of pink! I have this profound, overwhelming desire for everyone, every single one of you, to embrace the delightful world of tutus!

Oh, to dream of a world where every single person wears a pink tutu! Doesn't that sound absolutely enchanting?! A world bathed in the softest shades of pink, every step a dance, every day a celebration of our unique inner ballerina! Now, wouldn't that be a delightful way to spend our lives?

And as you know, darlings, I'm not one to leave you without a dose of #TutuTuesday inspiration. So, this week's sartorial mission is:

  • Think pink, think frills, think romanticism.
  • Channel your inner ballerina with a little extra fluff and flourish.
  • Try a ballerina-inspired hairstyle - perhaps a stylish chignon with a delicate touch of lace?
  • Let your own personal style shine!

And most importantly, embrace the tutu-ful joy of dancing your way through life!

Now, excuse me while I pop on my pinkest tutu and travel back to 1853, for more glorious dance-related historical explorations! Don't forget to join me on www.pink-tutu.com every Tuesday for a new #TutuTuesday! Until next time, stay glamorous!

Emma

P.S. I do enjoy travelling by train - there's something so delightfully chic and vintage about it, and they make such lovely little choo-choo noises!
