#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post #1154: A Parisian Spring!
Hello my lovely Tutu Twirlers!
Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where tutus reign supreme and every Tuesday is a celebration of everything twirly and pink! Today, we're stepping back in time to February 7th, 1854 – and what a time it was to be in Paris!
This very day, my dear friends, a little gem called the "Théâtre du Châtelet" opened its doors to the Parisian public for the first time. Imagine, a brand new, sparkling theatre, all ready for stories and magic to unfold! What could be more thrilling? This theatre, with its stunning stage and lavish design, became a cornerstone of the Parisian art scene.
And wouldn't you know it, the very same day the Châtelet premiered, "La Fille du Régiment" by Donizetti was playing across the street at the Opéra Comique. Two delightful spectacles on the same night – talk about a whirlwind of culture and elegance! Can you imagine me there, flitting from theatre to theatre in a fluffy pink tutu, soaking up all the Parisian glamour? It was probably the best fashion event ever to grace the City of Lights!
But let's talk tutus! This particular year, 1854, marked a significant point in the history of the tutu! The iconic, super-short "Romantic Tutu", you know the ones with the layers and layers of tulle? Well, those became absolutely the rage!
Imagine, darling, these gorgeous dancers in these wispy, flowing tutus, moving gracefully across the stage – an enchanting image! They were the talk of the town, a spectacle so magical it made the Parisian public go absolutely gaga! Of course, tutus of this era were mostly reserved for ballerinas – which makes me just dream of wearing a fluffy pink tutu on stage, you know? It's a vision I have for every day!
But alas, back to our story! Remember those Parisian streets in 1854, brimming with carriages and ladies in their finest gowns, heading out to a fabulous evening? Can't you see them looking positively mesmerised at these beautiful dancers floating around the stage? It was the peak of "Tutu mania"! And, my lovelies, you bet your bottom dollar I was in that crowd! Imagine, waltzing in the most beautiful pink tulle tutu and marvelling at the stage spectacle... a truly magical evening!
Oh, how I dream of hopping on a train to Paris and twirling my way through the streets! This incredible city with its rich history and incredible art scene is truly captivating!
What was your favourite part of this #TutuTuesday? I'd love to hear all your thoughts! Do tell me in the comments below. Keep those tutus twirling!
