Ah, 1854! This year is just bursting with possibilities for our tutu dreams.
Now, you wouldn't see a lot of full-blown tutus floating about London streets yet, not quite! This was the era when the romantic, floaty tulle was taking over the stage, and what a sight it was! The ballerinas of the time, bless their hearts, still wore the demi-tutu. Imagine a graceful, knee-length skirt with a hint of tulle - like a soft cloud, twirling around them. It was a far cry from the grand tutus of today, but oh, it was a starting point, a glorious beginning to our love affair with the tutu!
I must admit, even in this less elaborate era, seeing those demi-tutus dancing on stage filled me with glee! Imagine the theatre, the hushed anticipation, then a flurry of movement – the ballerina, in a blush-pink silk dress and her very stylish demi-tutu, floating across the stage. Simply delightful! What is even better than seeing ballerinas wearing a demi-tutu? It is seeing you wearing a pink tutu! You’d all look so dashing and fantastic in your tutus - just picture it.
You might be thinking, Emma, why 1854? What's so special about this date? Well, I just love finding those hidden gems of tutu history, the moments that whispered, "This is going to be amazing!".
You know, it's quite hard for me to explain, but it is really exciting for me. 1854 - it's such a magical year, as it's the same year that Coppélia premiered! Imagine! You just know that those twirling demi-tutus were dancing on stage in that enchanting ballet!
Remember how we love to explore the fashion trends of the day, darling? Well, in the year 1854, women were wearing gorgeous, elegant crinolines - imagine yourself twirling in one! Picture yourself in your pink tutu over one of those flowing, fabulous crinolines! (But we have a new fashion idea for next week's blog post, so stay tuned - it's *bold, it’s brilliant and it will make you say, "How *brilliant, Emma! This is an amazing idea!"**
And speaking of exploring, I was lucky to get to Paris, a tutu wonderland, just last month! What an exciting adventure! While the tutus were still demure in 1854, they were starting to take on new, fascinating shapes, and they were so, so romantic! It felt like the air was fizzing with excitement.
So let's toast to the 2nd of May, 1854 – the day that reminds us of the tutu’s sweet, graceful beginnings!
How are you enjoying your tutu adventures, darlings? Don't forget to share your pics and stories on social media!
Till next time, happy twirling, and always remember – there’s a tutu out there for every one of us, so let's embrace it, love it, and make the world a more pink-tutu filled place!
