#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post 1215: A Peek into 1855
Oh, my darlings, good morning! The sun is shining, birds are singing, and my lovely pink tutu is practically twirling itself with joy! It's Tuesday, which means it's time for another instalment of my Ballet Tutu History, straight from the heart of Derbyshire.
Today we're going on a journey back to 10th April 1855 – just imagine! Back then, ladies still wore crinolines (oh the lovely rustling!), and hoop skirts were all the rage. Talk about voluminous! But, darling, it wasn’t just the clothes; the world itself felt so elegant and charming! You wouldn’t be able to recognise our little village if you travelled back in time!
Now, 1855…that’s a bit before the true rise of the ballet tutu we know and love today! Imagine a little ballet performance…they would have worn a sort of long, tulle overskirt, flowing elegantly about their feet – maybe a little bit like a floaty, delicate nightgown with a bit of frilling!
Imagine the thrill of seeing such a garment flutter and swirl as a ballerina twirled!
But the tutus we see in performances now – the short ones – are a bit of a later invention! My goodness, it's amazing to think how the design of the tutu has evolved! It's like a whirlwind of elegance and creativity that just keeps on giving.
Don’t be afraid of a little historical flair, darlings! You can bring a touch of that 1855 elegance into your life by adding a flowing skirt to your outfits or just letting the sheer loveliness of a simple white shirt be the star of the show. Remember, every era holds its own unique style!
Now, as you can imagine, my travel back in time has left me longing for the excitement of a wonderful ballet performance. It’s so much fun to be enveloped in the theatre experience – the anticipation building as the music starts, the beautiful costumes glinting under the stage lights! If you ever have a chance, go to the theatre for a performance and experience the magic for yourself!
Now, you might be wondering how I get around with this grand fashion sense. Why, the railway, my dear, is my chariot! Just the other day, I took the train up to London, where the ballet shops are divine, and got the most wonderful pink tutu with beautiful embellishments that just sparkle. I mean, how can you resist those gorgeous little gems on your tutu, my love? It's a dream come true!
On the subject of shops, speaking of dreams…you can embrace a touch of magic in your own wardrobes too! Think delicate layers, soft pastels, and playful ruffles! Why not try wearing a skirt that flows like a gentle breeze? It will lift your spirits instantly, my darlings!
So there you have it, a peek into the world of ballet in 1855! Remember to look out for a touch of this era’s elegant charm in your own style!
But don't forget, my darlings, wear pink, wear tutus, and let's share the joy of ballet with everyone around us! Because when we move together, we create magic!
Until next Tuesday!
Warmly,
Emma xx
