Tutu Tuesday: A Trip Through Time! #1229

Hello dearies, and welcome back to my #TutuTuesday blog! This week I've popped my trusty time-traveling top hat on and gone back to the 17th of July 1855.

Goodness me, you wouldn’t believe the fashions back then! All those layers! Think crinolines, think bustles, think lots of fabric. Thankfully, the one thing we can say is that they were onto something with their love for a beautiful ballet!

Paris was really the centre of it all back in the day, don’t you know. Ballet was all the rage there and the ballerinas looked absolutely smashing in their poetic costumes. And don’t forget those* pointed shoes,* designed by the great Charles Didelot, who is like, a legend in the ballet world! The French ladies were certainly setting the trend.

Now, we can't talk about ballet in the 1850s without mentioning Carlotta Grisi, a true legend who had everyone in Paris talking about her dazzling moves. And talking of dancingDid you know? It was during this period, right on this day!, the 17th of July 1855, that the amazing Ballet d’Opéra, based in Paris, put on a special performance for Emperor Napoleon III and the Empress Eugénie. Now, I wonder what that was like! Imagine the grandeur, the exquisite costumes, that crowd!

Back then, they just didn’t call it ‘ballet’; no, they called it “danse”! It’s almost as if we’re still living in an era when it is considered **chic and elegant to use a touch of French, darling! I just adore that.

Now, don’t forget my favourite thing - the tutu! It’s the ultimate expression of graceful movement, and the more fabric, the better! It's truly an artistic masterpiece when it comes to costuming.

Although we won’t see real tutus appearing in performances for another couple of decades, there was still some serious fashion on display, think romantic layers of soft fabrics, flowing skirts with an elegance you could die for. I so want to be able to go back in time to watch those ballet stars, you know, those legendary figures of dance, perform live. Wouldn't it be amazing to watch these beautiful costumes swirl and twirl, see how the movement inspired them and the incredible stories they told? Honestly, darling, it makes me want to get on a train (or perhaps a time machine… one can dream!), and go see it for myself!

In fact, just imagine - me, twirling my own pink tutu in front of all the elite. Maybe we’ll all start a new fashion for tutu twirling. Perhaps it’ll become a* huge craze!* Who knows what the future holds for my favourite dancewear?

Now, this blog wouldn’t be complete without a fashion moment! Back to 1855, ladies, hats, hats, and more hats! The grander, the better. Think feathers, think flowers, think veils, think * ribbons,* silk, lace, and the sheerest fabrics, you could find. I always say, a woman needs her hat, darling. You could wear one every single day if you so wish, it’s like wearing a piece of art on your head!

Just like a ballerina on stage!

I promise to come back with some more time-traveling tutu moments in a week, and be sure to visit the www.pink-tutu.com for more posts and updates, darling.

See you next Tuesday!

Love, Emma
