#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History, Post #1233 – 14th August 1855: Oh, Paris!

Bonjour, mes chéries! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu-loving time traveler, back for another fabulous #TutuTuesday!

This week we're whisking ourselves off to the magical city of Paris! Paris, you see, was simply bursting with creative energy back in 1855, with a special event that left everyone, including me, utterly charmed – The Universal Exposition! Imagine the grandeur! A massive celebration of everything brilliant from across the globe. Think beautiful buildings, exotic displays, and a feast of technological marvels, even an enormous glass dome! The air buzzed with excitement, but for me, of course, it's all about the ballet!

Oh, the French ballet was absolutely exquisite! The tutus! Divine! A mix of flowing tulles, delicate silk, and elegant shapes! The Parisian ballerinas glided with such grace and refinement, truly making it look effortless. You see, back then, the "tutu" itself was still quite a new invention. The styles were all about showing off the ballerina's limbs and adding that airy, ethereal effect to their movements. Think fluttering, fluffy, and perfectly structured with an emphasis on movement, almost as though they were floating across the stage.

But while we're talking tutus, we also need to discuss the clothes! It seems Paris, even then, was THE place to be for fabulous fashion! Oh, the colours, the textures! The ladies had the most stunning dresses and elaborate hats. Picture lavish silks and velvets in striking colours like emerald green, deep plum, and fiery crimson. The gentlemen looked so dapper in their frock coats and top hats! You just can't beat the romance of that era, wouldn't you agree, darling?

And as always, let's discuss how I arrived here! My last show was back in England – a lovely production of "Giselle" in Derbyshire. After I took a deep, satisfying bow to the thunderous applause, it was straight to the station. That wonderful Victorian railway was just waiting to take me to France. How divine is a train journey? The whistle, the steam, the swaying carriages, and the chance to observe those captivating, colourful sights out of the windows! It truly feels like stepping into a magical adventure, wouldn't you agree, lovelies?

Well, let's fast forward back to the Universal Exposition and the amazing ballets! For this #TutuTuesday, I'm actually dancing! Not literally dancing on stage, no darling, but I'm dancing through the exposition in my exquisite pink tutu, surrounded by all this brilliance. I mean, it’s truly inspiring to be surrounded by such creativity!

What a day for a #TutuTuesday, right? It's got me yearning to twirl through the streets of Paris myself.

Don’t forget to join me on the magical journey every #TutuTuesday! Be sure to share your own pink tutu adventures by tagging me @pink_tutu! Remember: life is always more colourful in a pink tutu. And until next week, darling, keep twirling!

Yours truly,

Emma,
