Post 1279 - Ooh la la!

Hello, my darling tutu-loving friends! Emma here, ready to take you on another whimsical journey through the history of the most magical garment on earth...the tutu!

It’s Tuesday, which means it’s time for another fabulous #TutuTuesday, and today we’re hopping aboard the time-traveling express (it's definitely the prettiest carriage on the train - all plush pink velvet and pearl-studded mirrors!), and we're going to 1856-07-01, right into the heart of Paris!

Now, imagine this... The scent of freshly baked croissants and the echo of cheerful chatter drifting from the Parisian cafĂ©s as you wander the elegant streets. The sunlight glints off the wrought iron balconies and illuminates the grand boulevards. The air buzzes with the anticipation of a performance at the OpĂ©ra Garnier...and you’re dressed in your most beautiful pink tutu, of course!

It’s the height of fashion, you know, and a tutu can be spotted everywhere! It might not be as full and billowing as the romantic, fairytale tutus we love today, but believe me, those ladies were onto something with the way they wore those delicate, almost-feathery layers!

As I walk down the bustling streets of the Champs-ÉlysĂ©es, I spy a charming milliner with a shop window adorned with bonnets and feathers in the most dazzling array of colours imaginable. This is a lady who knows what fashion is all about, I thought! Now, don't think that pink tutus were everywhere back then - they would have been a little too “out there,” perhaps even considered "a bit bold". The typical ballerina would wear white, perhaps with touches of pale pink or pastel colours in the embellishments and ribbons.

You see, this was a time of serious elegance. In those days, dancers, or "ballerines" as they were known, needed a tutu that flowed like water, one that could show off their every move in a graceful ballet. The famous Paris Opera Ballet is absolutely legendary! Imagine the excitement...

The Perfect Picture - On this Day:

You know how much I love ballet performance, so you won’t be surprised that my diary for 1856-07-01 is bursting with plans to see the best the OpĂ©ra Garnier has to offer. Today's performance - can you imagine my delight? - is “The Corsican Brothers.” A real classic.

And speaking of classic... The tutu styles were becoming more and more theatrical! A nod to the past - can you picture my excitement? - as dancers are sporting variations on the "polonaise" silhouette (remember, you know I love those!), all soft tulle and graceful movement!

You might think it's a long way from the tutu of today. But don’t be fooled! Those ballerines were definitely the pioneers, the fashionistas of their day! And as for me? I can’t help but dream of wearing my very own pink tutu for a performance in that grand, glorious opera house! Now wouldn’t that be a picture?

My Tutu Tip for the Week:

This week’s tutu inspiration: Be bold and experiment with colour! Just a splash of bright colour can completely change your tutu - a pink ribbon here, a cherry-red flower there, you could even try a bit of vibrant blue. You'd be surprised what a little bit of colour can do for a simple white tutu, you know? It’s all about finding the right colours that speak to you, to your personal style - because you're as unique and as beautiful as your own style of tutu. Now, that’s something to think about, eh?
