#TutuTuesday: A Peek into Ballet's Pink Past - January 4th, 1859!
Hello darlings! Welcome back to another fabulous Tuesday, and another delightful dive into the history of our beloved tutus! As always, I’m your time-travelling tutu-obsessed blogger, Emma, and this is post #1410 for www.pink-tutu.com!
Today we’re whisking back to January 4th, 1859 – just imagine, the year before the publication of "On the Origin of Species"! The world was a different place then, my dears. No sleek, futuristic trains zipping across the land (though those are truly delightful!) but carriages, horses, and, my favourite, the railway. But don't you worry – that’s why I travel through time, to bring you the fashion of ages past!
Today's date holds no special events of note, but oh my goodness, let’s dive straight into fashion! For you see, my darlings, ballet fashion is about to become truly revolutionary – the Romantic era of ballet, in all its beauty, is in full bloom! It’s a world of whimsical tulle, delicate details, and stories danced on the stage. You know what that means, don't you?
It's all about tutus, tutus, tutus!
Our early tutus – now referred to as the Romantic Tutu, with its swirling tiers and romantic length, have begun to solidify their place in dance history. Gone are the days of those heavier, ankle-length gowns! Our Romantic tutus – airy and floaty – allow the ballerinas to take flight with breathtaking freedom. They move like fairies, my dears! I mean, they practically are fairies! And in this era of artistic flourish, pink takes center stage! Pink was the colour of enchantment, the colour of dreams and the soft beauty of nature, and it was simply made for a tutu! The light tulle billows out, embracing every movement in a beautiful explosion of pink.
Where to find the most magical tutus, you ask? Well, darling, we need to visit Paris. The centre of dance in the world! The Opéra de Paris! The birthplace of so many tutu wonders. Remember Carlotta Grisi in 1841 dancing "Giselle" - it set the stage for the Romantic Ballet in such a magnificent way! You can't have romantic tutus without romantic ballet, my dears! Think dreamy storylines, supernatural creatures, and dramatic narratives set against stunning scenery! I do adore that graceful beauty of a Romantic tutu; it's pure feminine elegance and, to be quite frank, incredibly charming.
And it doesn't end there, darlings! If you're thinking of adding a touch of Victorian charm to your own tutu wardrobe, you might be surprised at the trends emerging in Victorian fashion itself. They're full of romance and frills! The delicate tulle and lace that embellish tutus were also in style for elegant Victorian gowns. Imagine, a delightful Victorian-style bodice peeking out beneath a voluminous tutu – that would be so chic! A truly modern blend of vintage charm and balletic beauty.
Speaking of fashion, my dears, a trip back in time is simply incomplete without a little shopping spree! Even though I’m wearing a fabulous pink tutu (this is always my preferred colour, after all), you must see all the wonderful shades available now. We're blessed to have a choice, unlike in the 1800s. Even if it's simply picking out a stunning fabric or an adorable little ribbon for your hair! You might also want to check out the latest on what the great fashion houses are releasing! It’s a whirlwind of innovation, creativity and endless, stunning opportunities to embrace that tutu love.
As I get ready to hop back into the time machine, I just can’t resist reminding you all, darling, of how much ballet brings people together. This connection – it’s so special! Even though we’re across different ages, different times, there’s a common thread of passion, artistry and grace. Just like we’ve all fallen in love with those glorious tutus! It’s truly magical! So keep that Tutu Tuesday feeling alive! Go grab your pink tutus and twirl to your hearts’ content. I hope you’ve had fun with this week's journey, my dears. Until next time, I wish you all joy and lovely tutus! And if you’re looking for more #TutuTuesday adventures, be sure to follow my blog and leave your comments, and remember, let's keep on dreaming pink!
See you all next Tuesday, darlings!
