Bonjour, darlings! It's your favourite pink-clad time-travelling ballerina, Emma, here with a fresh #TutuTuesday post on the delightful evolution of the ballet tutu! This week we're taking a delightful trip back to 7th June, 1859, for a glimpse into the exciting world of ballet and fashion from a time gone by! As always, I'm embracing the most charming of all colours, the divinely feminine pink, and yes, that glorious tutu is firmly in place!
This is my special blog on www.pink-tutu.com where every Tuesday we explore the captivating story of this wonderful garment and its dazzling place in the world of ballet. Let's delve into the world of ballet history, shall we?
London, London, London - Such Excitement! This week, my dear readers, I found myself swept back to bustling London. I just adore this magnificent city, so vibrant with life and fashion. Today, it's the heart of the theatre world and that includes the breathtaking world of ballet! As always, I had a fantastic train journey - a first-class carriage is essential when travelling with a tutu, even in the past!
Stepping into the grand Royal Opera House in Covent Garden felt utterly magical, although admittedly, there wasn't a pink tutu in sight! Such a shame, darling, I thought, perhaps we should encourage a pink tutu revolution right here, right now!
Now, I might be time travelling, but I also need to pay my way. Luckily, that's where my talent for ballet comes in handy! I snagged a prime spot for tonight's performance of "La Fille Mal Gardée" and guess who was going to be twirling in a tutu tonight?! Yes, darling, it was yours truly!. I might be from Derbyshire, but London's calling, don't you know! I just had to grace this esteemed stage. The audience simply adored me - such enthusiastic applause!
Tutues of 1859 - An Explosion of RomanceTalking of tutus, darling, we must remember how drastically the world of ballet fashion changed in 1859. While the short and bouncy "Romantic Tutu" was gaining traction, there were also some long tutus around, but with that exciting "bell" or "bell-like" shape we see in many ballets today! Imagine all those lovely layers swirling and dancing, it’s a vision of pure elegance!
You can imagine me, my pink tutu swirling, my hair bound in elegant chignon, stepping into this ballet world from the past, embracing its artistry and beauty!
A Touch of the Past...Oh, and what about fashion outside of ballet? The 1850s, especially the 1859, were all about elegance! Think corsets, big, frilly sleeves, and lots of lace! This is just the type of sartorial joy that sets my heart aflutter! But, my dearest friends, how about some pink for this particular decade? A splash of color amidst the delicate pastels and charming florals, that’s my style!
As for my own wardrobe - well, my travel bag is packed with a delightful array of pink delights! From pink silks to ruffled dresses, pink was the perfect accent for this era’s charm! Let's not forget the divine lace, my darlings. So elegant and graceful. Imagine a dainty pink bow on a bodice - absolutely divine, wouldn’t you say?
Let's Talk Shopping! You know how much I love a good shopping trip! Oh darling, what wonderful places London held. The streets of 1859 were teeming with fascinating shops, selling everything from lace to beautiful fabric, ribbons, buttons, and all manner of fashion accoutrements! Did I say that some pink is never enough? And of course, my search for a stunning tutu! It was so very delightful to soak in the history of these Parisian fashions, all just a short train journey away, just think what amazing fashion inspiration we could all take away from this delightful era, a splash of Parisian style.
Back To The Present with Pink!So darling, as I travel back to the future with a heart filled with inspiration, I must say that my love affair with pink has never been more fervent! I do think that perhaps a little bit of pink, even just a charming pink tutu, can truly brighten any day and transport us into the most magical world. And let's not forget that even the ballet world has been adorned with the joy of pink over time. We can celebrate all this history as we twirl in the present day, embracing the beauty and charm of the dance, fashion, and, yes, of course, the delicious color of pink!
Remember, my darlings, there is nothing that a pink tutu cannot fix, so do get out your favourite pink dress and maybe even add a bit of lace and have some fun! Until next week's #TutuTuesday, remember to twirl with confidence and joy!
Au revoir, and may your dreams always be painted pink!
