#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 1861-08-06 🩰🌸
Hey there, darlings! Welcome back to another glorious #TutuTuesday on pink-tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things tutus, pink, and everything lovely! I’m your favourite, ever-so-slightly time-travelling, tutu-obsessed blogger, Emma, ready to take you on another delightful journey through the fascinating world of ballet and the wondrous tutu! This week, we're skipping back to the summer of 1861, a glorious time for fashion and dance! Let's dust off our feather boas and set off on the train to Paris, the beating heart of ballet at this time!
Remember, darling, every Tuesday, this is your #TutuTuesday on pink-tutu.com, and we are on post number 1545, a fantastic number for a fabulous day! This week I'm feeling especially rosy because I had the most wonderful day at the Palais Garnier! The Opera was alive with colour and music. And darling, it wasn’t just the music, no, it was the costumes! Imagine! Imagine, darling, the glorious silk skirts swirling across the stage, like delicate pink clouds with an endless spectrum of colours, so wonderfully feminine! And I spotted the most gorgeous pink tutu, the perfect shade of rose, so exquisite and light! It just made me dream of the future, a world where everyone dances in their own perfectly-fitting pink tutus. How lovely!
Speaking of tutus, darling, 1861, dear, was a delightful time for them, though, they weren’t the tutus we see today. Imagine, tutus in those days were still quite practical, often made from a heavy white cotton fabric with plenty of stiff layers and a little tulle for a bit of movement. So unlike those delightful, light tutus we see today. Oh darling, how I wish they had tulle in those days, how truly perfect they would be. The emphasis back then was on showcasing the ballerina's beautiful form. Those magnificent, flowing tutus were all about elegance, darling. Ballet is just such an elegant art form, don’t you agree?
Now, you wouldn’t believe, darling, that in 1861, August 6th to be precise, one of the world’s most famous ballerinas, Marie Taglioni, had her 52nd birthday! Such a momentous occasion for this extraordinary lady!
Oh darling, just picture her on stage in those early tutus, gliding across the boards, with every movement an art form. That must have been spectacular! I'm off on the train back to Derbyshire today. We have a very exciting event at the local ballet school next week with my dear friend Charlotte, it's an amazing chance to help others to dance their way into a pink tutu future!
Let’s dream together of a future where tutus rule the world and where we all celebrate fashion and beauty and ballet. Come back next Tuesday for a new installment of #TutuTuesday.
Now off to find the perfect shade of pink. Let’s talk tutus! Love, Emma. 🩰💕
