Tutu Tuesday #1567: A Whirl Through Time!

Dearest Tutu Lovers,

Itā€™s Tuesday, and you know what that meansā€¦ another trip through time for your favourite pink-tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina! This week, Iā€™ve set my time machine for the 7th of January, 1862 ā€“ just a little over a century and a half ago!

Imagine this: London, a city brimming with charm and gaslight. I've got my trusty travel trunk overflowing with a sea of pink tutus, my favourite hat perched on my head (naturally pink!), and I'm all ready to explore this fascinating era.

Speaking of tutus, what a time to be a dancer! While our present-day tutus might be seen on stage, back then, it wasnā€™t just ballerinas who were waltzing around in these lovely, voluminous skirts!

Thatā€™s right, tutus, or variations of them, were a prominent part of fashionable dress for women of this time. We're talking about ballgowns, evening wear, even everyday clothing. The skirts, made from a variety of fabrics, like tulle, silk, or satin, would be intricately tiered, layered, and often decorated with ribbons, ruffles, and delicate lace.

So, what does my journey for today entail? Well, as always, itā€™s all about finding inspiration in this unique time. I've spent my morning strolling through bustling streets, taking in the fashion displays at millinery shops, and even having tea with a charming Lady whose wardrobe Iā€™m sure could rival the grandeur of a ballet set!

Here's what's on todayā€™s calendar:

  • The Grand Promenade: The Royal Family was known for holding lavish balls and soirĆ©es. Today, the social elite of London is gathered at Buckingham Palace, swirling gracefully in the latest fashions ā€“ think long, flowing skirts, delicate bodices, and of course, tutus galore! (A tutu may not be technically a tutuā€¦ I must explain!)
  • Theater Royal Drury Lane: Tonight, Iā€™ll be venturing to see a production of ā€œA Life of Pleasureā€. Back then, the theater was not just entertainment, but a hub of social gatherings ā€“ a perfect opportunity to spot the latest trends!
  • Shopping for Lace: In this era, exquisite lace trimmings were a fashion staple. This afternoon, I'll be losing myself in the intricately-designed, handcrafted lacework that adds such intricate detail to tutus, evening wear, and ball gowns.

As the day goes on, my excitement is mounting. After all, I'm all about embracing the beautiful, feminine side of fashion ā€“ something this era seems to capture with its grand balls, luxurious attire, and an appreciation for elegance and refined beauty.

I just know my inspiration from the past will add new flourishes to my own Tutu Tuesday outfits.

Keep your tutus twirling,

Emma, your Time-Travelling Tutu Goddess

P.S. Stay tuned for more snapshots from my 1862 adventure! Remember, itā€™s never too early, or too late, to start a tutu trend!
