#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Whirl Back in Time! 🩰

Welcome back to Pink Tutu! 👋 It's me, Emma, your resident tutu-obsessed time traveler, and this week, I'm taking you on another spin through the fascinating history of our beloved tutu! 💖 It's #TutuTuesday, the 15th of July, 1862, and the air in Paris is thick with the excitement of a brand new season of ballet. We're here in the city of lights where dance is a glittering star in the artistic firmament. Today we'll be stepping back into a time when fashion was daring and grace was a must.

A Whimsical World of Romantic Ballet

Let me whisk you away on the journey back in time to when the ballet world was caught in the throes of Romanticism, a period that redefined dance as we know it! Picture delicate dancers fluttering across the stage in swirling, billowing tutus.

These earlier versions of the tutu, often called 'Romantic tutus', were a far cry from the short, fitted tutus you might be used to seeing in the modern ballet world! These early tutus were all about layers, romance, and a dreamlike ethereal quality.

Imagine billowing, tulle layers flowing all the way to the dancer's feet, often paired with romantic, floaty sleeves that made them seem like sprites flitting across the stage! 💫

Just like the story of ‘Giselle’, where love and heartbreak transform into haunting woodland spirits, these Romanic tutus were all about transporting audiences into another world of wonder and beauty. ✨

A Bit of Parisian Chic

Of course, no #TutuTuesday would be complete without a peek at the latest in Parisian fashion, wouldn't it? And oh darling, the 1860s are overflowing with stylish delights!

Parisian women are all about elegant "Crinoline" styles, and believe me, these skirts are a statement. Picture yards of fabric, intricately shaped to create bell-shaped, billowing skirts, a dream come true for someone with a penchant for voluminous garments. That’s just like me, you see?

A Glimpse at the Show

Tonight we’ll be attending a ballet performance at the Opéra de Paris. I’m absolutely thrilled as you can probably tell – Ballet in Paris is simply enchanting!

The ballet on the program tonight is ‘Giselle’ - the iconic story of a country girl's passionate love, betrayed by her beloved prince! The heartbreak, the drama, and the magical spirits all weave a tale that pulls audiences right into the heart of the story!

This romantic ballet is just as popular now as it was when I first journeyed to Paris in the 1840s.

There are so many extravagant* features of the show. You'll be dazzled by sparkling jewellery adorning crinolines and gorgeous silks and satin garments that make Parisian ballet audiences sigh with delight.

Of course, no Parisian event would be complete without sparkling, bright costumes, wouldn't it? And it goes without saying, I’m thrilled by how closely this French style is intertwined with the elegant beauty of a good tutu. I’ll be sure to capture every glorious detail to share with you! 🩰

A Delicious Feast and Some French Fun

After the performance, there is sure to be delicious Parisian fare. My heart is already dreaming of delectable French pastries and creamy, smooth chocolate drinks. 🤤

As an added bonus, Parisian social events at this time are quite fascinating! They always have some wonderful, unique customs, which makes the experience even more delightful! We’re in for a fun night.

The 15th of July in 1862 in Paris promises a thrilling, beautiful adventure! I'm sure the city will captivate us with its charm and elegant atmosphere.

Remember, this is just one of the many delightful journeys through time we'll take together. So tune in next week for another captivating dose of tutu history! 💖

Until then, I'm off to dance! And if you ever feel inspired to twirl and be bold like a ballerina, you'll be pleased to know I think a pink tutu is just the ticket to help you embrace your inner fashion diva! 💖

XOXO
