Hello darlings, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! I’m Emma, your pink-loving, tutu-wearing guide to all things ballet. Today’s #TutuTuesday takes us right back to 1862-10-28, and it's time for a bit of historical exploration!
I must confess, darlings, the weather's been positively dreary in Paris this week. Not the kind of day for waltzing through the Bois de Boulogne in a full-length tulle skirt. No, for these chilly days, I prefer my tutu a bit shorter. That being said, the crisp air just begs for a visit to the theatre, and the Paris Opera never disappoints. This week, it's La Fille Mal Gardée they're performing. Oh, how I love that charming, witty choreography! I can’t wait to see the dancing and, of course, the glorious costumes.
Speaking of costumes, 1862, you see, was a particularly pivotal year for the ballet world. Not only did our beloved tutus get a major update with the advent of longer skirts and more elaborate embellishments, but the Parisian public were going utterly mad for ballets! It was the era of Carlotta Grisi, who literally put romanticism onto the stage. And who can resist those flowing, dreamy tulle skirts, reaching all the way to the floor? Imagine waltzing around in one, darling, the sensation!
But tutus didn’t just exist in the world of the ballet stage back then, you know. In 1862, Queen Victoria, a true patron of the arts, had become quite smitten with ballet. She and Prince Albert frequently graced the London theatre stages, showcasing their love for the beautiful performances, including ballet. Even on less formal occasions, these beautiful frocks, a nod to the tutus of the time, became popular with women of all social standings. Now, that's what I call a fashion statement!
Personally, I can't get enough of these beautifully layered tulle skirts. Their flowing lines and airy texture bring out the absolute princess in me, darling. I just know you'll find the perfect tutu to express your own unique charm.
Now, darling, remember, the history of ballet is just as vast and intricate as the world of fashion, and we're just scratching the surface.
Don't forget, your pink tutu journey isn't complete until you've explored all the stories and inspiration it offers. And remember, to truly get a feel for those historic tutus, a visit to a ballet performance is the absolute must! It’s no wonder we still love and admire those gorgeous flowing garments today, darlings. Just like I do.
That's all for this week, darlings! Keep those tutus twirling! Until next time, take care, and #EmbraceTheTutu!
