#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: Post 1763 - A Whirl Through the 1860s!

Greetings, dear readers, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things pink and tutu! It's #TutuTuesday and that means a brand-new journey into the history of our beloved dancewear. Today we're venturing into the exciting 1860s! Buckle up, darlings, as we're about to take a whirlwind trip through time.

For this week's excursion, my fabulous frock of pink tulle has whisked me to Paris, oh la la! The City of Lights has always been a haven for dance and fashion, and 1860s Paris was no exception. Just imagine - boulevards bursting with life, glittering carriages, and, of course, ladies and gentlemen dressed to the nines!

Speaking of nine, we're fast approaching the year 1869 - a very special year for the ballet world. You see, 1869 was the year that saw the arrival of one of my favourite ballerinas, the stunning Marie Taglioni! Oh, she was so elegant and graceful. I simply adore her dancing! In those days, ladies were known for their grace and poise, and no one embodied these qualities quite like Marie. The image of her gliding across the stage in her airy, flowing tutus is an image that forever resonates in the hearts of dance enthusiasts.

The 1860s saw ballet tutus really come into their own. Forget about the frilly skirts and bodices of the early romantic era - by the 1860s, tutus had evolved into their more familiar form. Think shorter skirts, a little more "waisted," and, of course, exquisitely crafted to accentuate the ballerina's every movement.

Oh, what would we do without the tutu?! Imagine a ballet performance without the graceful flutters and elegant swishes of those delicate tulle layers. A true tragedy! Don't you agree?

But back to the journey, dear readers! As I ambled down the Rue de Rivoli, I found myself swept up in a fashion frenzy. It's hard to resist a trip to the boutiques and milliners, wouldn't you say? Imagine delicate silk fabrics, intricately crafted lace, and those breathtakingly gorgeous bonnets! The fashions were all so utterly captivating.

Speaking of capturing your hearts, my darlings, remember to sign up for my upcoming tour of Vienna. I'm so excited about this one! Vienna in 1867 - what a treat that will be. Just picture yourself, all dressed in your prettiest pink tulle tutu, strolling through Vienna's magnificent gardens, soaking up the grandeur of the palaces, and enjoying all the stunning performances and social gatherings that Vienna has to offer. Iโ€™m not one for being at home during the day! I can't wait to tell you all about my time travelling to these fascinating places and experience the world and history of the ballet first-hand. Oh! It would be utterly thrilling to join me!

Oh, my, dear readers, time seems to be slipping away! And how the day has flown by. Time to jump back on my pink train. Until next Tuesday, my lovelies, and may your tutus forever be full of life, colour and joy!

*Yours ever so sincerely, * Emma
