#TutuTuesday: A Whirlwind of History! - May 1st, 1866 (Post 1792)
Hello my darling tutu lovers! 🩰💖 It’s Emma here, your pink tutu-clad time-travelling blogger, and oh my goodness, what a whirlwind of history I’m about to take you on! This week, I’ve landed right in the heart of 1866! The year when the Grand Duchess of Baden opened the Stuttgart Ballet School in, you guessed it, Stuttgart, Germany! And let me tell you, dear readers, ballet was about to become even more popular in Germany. I’m so excited I could burst!
Just think, darling! This very same week, right this moment, those lovely Stuttgart dancers are just getting their training in! Can you imagine? Perhaps, even one of the very first ballerinas to step on this brand new stage! Maybe one day I’ll even meet one of them! Think of all the exciting stories to discover!
Right now, darling, I'm perched atop a rather fetching velvet bench in the grand foyer of the Stuttgart State Opera House, just waiting for the curtain to rise for the ballet season's opener! Oh, and before we go any further, let’s discuss the incredible style of the day, darling! What I’ve seen is utterly charming!
Imagine a beautifully patterned dress made of soft silks, a graceful crinoline, perhaps in a luscious blue or delicate floral print! So very fashionable and elegant! But darling, wouldn’t you just love a Pink silk crinoline? Just imagine the swirling colour as you dance! The sparkle alone is just something extraordinary! Just picture the stunning colour on stage! We must find a way to incorporate pink into this lovely, elegant world!
Now back to this fantastic Opera House - such lovely detail on the ceiling, with these incredible intricate paintings of Grecian gods and goddesses - simply glorious, just glorious! They almost make the fabulous chandeliers sparkle even brighter!
Anyway, darling, where was I? Ah, yes, 1866. Well, 1866 marked the very moment The Stuttgart State Ballet came to life. Now that's truly a moment worth celebrating!
Before you dash off to that grand dance floor, let me tell you just why Germany became such a huge hub of ballet. And you may be surprised - because it's all about the music darling!
German composers at this time, darling, were crafting the most exquisite, most utterly dreamy ballet scores you ever heard. Wagner, darling - oh, that beautiful sweeping score. His Lohengrin became such a massive hit that other composers couldn't wait to join the game. I’ve actually heard that the very same performance taking place tonight is Lohengrin and it's absolutely causing a sensation! Everyone's already chattering away in hushed tones about how magnificent it was and all those elegant, elaborate sets! Imagine the spectacle, darlings!
Well, my dears, there is so much history I have to share! For the moment, let’s imagine ourselves twirling around that gorgeous Stuttgart stage, don't you agree? Don't forget, to check in every week for another trip through Ballet History, and if you have any exciting ideas for my next adventures - especially with a pink tutu theme! Let me know! Until next week, keep twirling darling, and have a fantastic time at the ballet! 🩰💕
P.S Darling, have I told you about the absolutely fabulous carriage ride I just enjoyed! This carriage is like something straight out of a fairy tale, just picture the gorgeous, black glossy wood, the lavish embroidered red cushions, and oh the delightful clopping of the horses’ hooves on the cobbles. Pure romance! And, I did spot a young couple holding hands, enjoying the crisp breeze. It all feels very whimsical and delightful, don't you think? This whole ballet trip feels almost as delightful as those Parisian ballet shows. I just know this will be another ballet-filled travel story I'll treasure forever!
