#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 1867-03-12
Hello darlings! Welcome to my #TutuTuesday, and my 1837th blog post for pink-tutu.com. This week we’re taking a trip back in time to the enchanting year 1867 - think Paris, Vienna, and St Petersburg… the places where tutus are truly revered, don't you agree? Isn’t this such a wonderful time to be alive, to twirl through the streets and see tutus floating by everywhere you go! I certainly feel that way.
Now, where to even begin! My pink tutu, all tulle and sparkle, feels extra happy today. You see, it's all about tutus and a bit of whimsical fashion this week, as 1867 is such a special time!
Firstly, picture this! We’re celebrating one of the biggest milestones for ballerinas - a special dance that everyone is still talking about today - the creation of the iconic La Sylphide ballet! Oh darling, can you imagine the joy and the excitement? This beautiful, mystical work was actually created a whole 33 years ago! Can you believe it? And here we are still, twirling and delighting to this magical tale, in tutus just as enchanting as those of yesteryear!
Imagine this - the audience is awestruck, mesmerized by the ballerina’s elegance. Imagine this: The swirling tulle of her white tutu as she spins! Imagine the passion she exudes as she moves across the stage, her story being told in every movement. La Sylphide is truly breathtaking, and this is a tutu we just can't forget. It truly inspires us all to become graceful and elegant like those beauties on stage.
Now, let’s imagine us, dear reader, being present at this most dazzling of shows in our perfect, pretty pink tutus. Perhaps we’ve gone to see La Sylphide, oh the delight! Then after the ballet, you and I might take a romantic train ride to another magical city - Vienna perhaps, or Paris! How divine to see the world, and the world of ballet, with this elegance!
My dear readers, tutus aren’t just fashion items, you know? They're symbols of grace, and I do love some grace - a timeless art that keeps everyone, not just ballerinas, forever spellbound. We just have to follow our own path in that way! And our tutus always have something lovely to tell us, to keep reminding us to follow our hearts and spin away into a magical, joyful world.
Perhaps today's date means a little less in fashion. The year 1867 in the fashion world might seem to be more about crinolines and hats, but don’t you be fooled! There is plenty of enchantment. Remember that, and I will tell you all about it!
Of course, I, Emma, in my pretty pink tutu and Victorian dress have the most gorgeous dresses! You know the kind! Bustles, frills and frills of ruffles galore, in every colour imaginable. We like it frilly. A true romantic in pink and ruffles, isn’t that just a perfect pairing?
Let's talk more about these amazing outfits, though, in detail, for, as I said, fashion isn't limited to the ballrooms - tutus can make you stand out just as beautifully as an elegant gown, my darling. Just take a look around you! It seems every shop in London or Vienna or Paris boasts of some fabulous dresses to go with your very own personal ballerina style, and yes, this includes tutus! There’s such a variety and everything suits this kind of life: from flowing white silk to elegant lavender silk, or some wonderfully soft fabrics and frou-frou embellishments that match those elegant tulle skirts - just as lovely as those you would see on stage, but for the street, you know! So you see - all of these details remind us why 1867 is such a great year for tutus, and it doesn’t stop there. We can look at our gowns for our own graceful styles. Just remember it all ties in - and that’s quite something, is it not? The clothes, the movement, the life we lead - they're all connected, darling!
Today, our travels took us all the way to the most elegant ballrooms. Let's take our tutus and go out and celebrate life itself with all its joy and all its passion! And why not do this in an elegant tutu, all beautifully made in the latest styles of the day, to see the grand, beautiful things around us! And do tell me all about your outfits. I always love to hear how my pink-tutu.com readers are doing!
Don't forget to keep on twirling, darlings! Let me know your thoughts on my latest blog post, and share your thoughts in the comments section below!
Until next #TutuTuesday, my darlings, I wish you all the happiest of spins!
