#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 1867 - The Birth of a Ballerina's Dream! (Blog Post #1868)

Hello, darling dears, and welcome to another thrilling Tuesday on www.pink-tutu.com! Today, my little pink-loving ballerinas, we're embarking on a time-traveling adventure, whisking us back to the year 1867! Buckle up, for it’s a trip to the heart of tutus’ origins!

As always, my lovelies, we're diving into the magical world of Ballet Tutu History, and I can hardly contain myself, for this date, my dear readers, is a monumental one for us tutu enthusiasts!

I recently travelled back to October 15th, 1867, and landed right in the heart of Paris. The city was abuzz with excitement! I mean, the cobbled streets were filled with lovely ladies sporting the latest fashion, and oh my, the hats! Simply divine! The fashion sense of the Parisians always sets the pace for the world, and tutus are no exception, my dear!

You see, 1867, my dears, is when the famous ‘La Camargo’ tutu style first took the Parisian ballet world by storm! Think billowing tulle, airy and delicate, almost a cloud of pink fluff around a dancer.

Now, the tutu itself, in some form or other, has been around since the mid 18th century, but this was different! This ‘La Camargo’ style revolutionised dance! This shorter tutu allowed for more movement and flexibility on stage, transforming ballet into the spectacular form we know and adore today.

Let’s just say that seeing this new style was as delightful as watching the swirling of a freshly opened box of bonbons! Oh, I could practically feel the dance in my bones, even in my time travelling dress, and you know what, dear reader? That very day, I found the most beautiful little pink tutu, tucked away in an old lace shop in the heart of the city, with the daintiest tulle you could imagine!

This kind of dance, this ethereal movement and elegance, is truly enchanting! It just fills my heart with joy to know that it all began with a tiny, revolutionary little piece of clothing! The tutu, my dears, is so much more than just an outfit. It’s a symbol of dreams and freedom, and let me tell you, this is exactly what 19th century ballet, particularly the Parisian ballet, was all about!

Before we continue on our tutu time travelling, a quick look at today’s date! Well, darling readers, today marks World Food Day! Oh my, how delightful! That’s the perfect opportunity to go enjoy a wonderful meal out with my dearest friends and family! A meal and an evening in the theatre! Why not see an exquisite performance by the Paris Opera Ballet?

Speaking of ballet performances, to fund my travel across time and the tutus I acquire, I always perform. Last weekend, I danced with the Moscow Bolshoi, absolutely fantastic! Imagine all that grand, sweeping Russian artistry! They are still experimenting with tutu lengths, so you see how much things change! This week I will dance in Paris, with some rather nice shoes! The shoes are an important part of it all. Don’t get me started on pointe shoes! The best thing about performing in Paris is the opportunity to pick up more beautiful tutus! This month I will be travelling back to Derbyshire for a dance in a Derbyshire dance school, in the hopes that my hometown might discover the wonders of a pink tutu. There’s still so much work to do.

And now, let's delve deeper into the ‘La Camargo’ tutu's fascinating origins. Back in 1867, the dancer whose style revolutionised ballet, Mademoiselle Camargo, was not even a twinkle in her parents' eye! But, it was a ballet legend - Mademoiselle Camargo of the 1700s - who inspired the whole new style of dance and gave this delightful piece of ballet costume its name!

Imagine my excitement to travel back to 1867, witnessing firsthand the change, the fashion trends that have taken the Parisian stage by storm! I must say, it truly reminds me how important it is to always stay connected to our tutu roots and to appreciate all those who paved the way!

That said, dear friends, even though we have all these new trends to explore and learn from, the beauty of it all lies in this simple fact: each era brings a new, dazzling spin on the tutu, and that makes me so very excited about what the future holds for tutus, dear reader. Perhaps the tutu, much like the Eiffel Tower, is a Parisian invention destined for lasting greatness.

Before you go, do leave me a comment and let me know your favourite style of tutu, as well as the latest trends in your own local tutu scene! My time travelling wardrobe is getting rather large, as you can imagine, and I am always searching for more pink, and I have plans to return to this wonderful moment, as this style tutu is so beautiful, I might have to buy several for my wardrobe.

Have a lovely week, darlings! Let’s spread the love for tutus far and wide!

Until next #TutuTuesday, keep your heads high and your tutus fluffy!

Lots of love, Emma xxx
