#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time - August 18th, 1868 (Post #1912)

Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu! I'm Emma, your resident time-travelling ballerina and tutu enthusiast, ready to take you on another whirlwind tour through ballet history! Today's date, the 18th of August 1868, has me absolutely giddy. This is the day that the Parisian opera house, the Palais Garnier, had its grand opening! Talk about a tutu-worthy event, wouldn't you agree?

Imagine the sheer extravagance of it all, darling. The finest performers in all of Europe stepping onto the grand stage, the glittering chandeliers, the roar of the crowd, the excitement of witnessing something truly extraordinary - a building dedicated to the pure beauty and artistry of ballet!

Now, I've been to the Garnier myself - a recent trip, you see. And let me tell you, it’s a feast for the senses! Every corner is a masterpiece - think gilded ceilings, plush velvet seating, intricate carvings. I nearly swooned just from walking through the lobby! Even the "grand escalier" (that's the grand staircase, darling!) is an architectural wonder with its double flights of stairs spiralling gracefully upwards like the perfect arabesque.

The ballet they performed that evening was "La Source", which, let's be honest, I'd have adored for the title alone. The costumes? Well, let's just say that tutus were certainly making a statement. These beauties were crafted from delicate tulle, some with hints of glittering sequins, and, of course, that lovely shade of pale pink that makes my heart flutter. It was almost as if the building itself was born under a blush-toned spotlight!

For a budding ballet enthusiast like myself, this period was truly a dream. It's when the artistry and precision of ballet really started taking shape, evolving into the graceful, athletic art form we adore today. Think long, fluid lines, graceful jumps, delicate point work. You know, the kind of things that makes us practically burst into pirouettes!

Speaking of the ballet world... how wonderful would it be to watch The Phantom of the Opera from the comfort of an opera box? I wouldn't mind sharing with you darlings, though you'd have to agree that my pink tutu must remain on throughout the performance. One cannot be too extra, after all! I do think I would love the thrill of sitting in the darkened theatre, watching the shadows flicker and waiting for Gaston Leroux's ghostly hero to reveal his mysterious presence. A story made for my "Gothic Glamour" collection, I must say!

Now, let's talk tutus for a moment! 1868 was an absolutely glorious year for ballet costumes, darling! Designers started experimenting with bolder silhouettes. Think more flowing tulle, a bit of leg showing, and even the occasional hint of sheerness in those graceful ballet bodices. Oh, to see them with my own eyes, swaying through the air as the dancers twirl and leap. And who knows? I may even find some fabulously inspiring fashion moments in 19th-century Paris that will be perfectly suitable for adding to my “pink tutu” wardrobe back at home in Derbyshire!

Speaking of my Derbyshire home, travel plays a crucial part in this tutu-tastic life, you know. A girl's gotta explore! I make a living performing, a "Dancing Emma" if you will. Imagine! Me, in my most elegant ballet costumes, with all the sparkly trims and delicate embroidery, spinning and leaping across the stage! Oh, it makes me feel like I can truly reach for the stars. This pays for all my fantastic voyages, including, naturally, my essential trips to ballet museums, dressmakers, and all those delightful places with incredible shops selling those utterly fabulous tutus! And of course, my frequent jaunts via train back home to Derbyshire. Don't you just adore the gently swaying rhythm of a train carriage, especially with a good book and some tasty sweets, all whilst dreaming of pink tutus? I do.

But let's not get too sidetracked. Back to the tutus! A good tutu needs to be the showstopper! That’s why I can never get enough of those voluminous, layers of tulle. There’s simply something about it, a sort of fairytale magic! It makes me feel as though I'm on stage, about to pirouette across a world of my own making! Think about it: what's more magical than a flurry of tulle twirling and dancing? The more pink tulle we can unleash on the world, the better, I say!

For today's outfit inspiration, darling, why not try a little "tutu" upgrade? Channel your inner Parisian and add some pink tulle to your outfit! Maybe a pink tutu skirt layered over your favourite dress, a ribbon of tulle on a pretty bow, or even just a splash of pink in your makeup! A pink tulle hat - oh yes! I just might try one! The only thing stopping us is our imagination, darling!

Stay stylish, stay sweet, and let’s make the world a more fabulous place – one pink tutu at a time! Until next week, dear friends!

Emma
