#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 1869-03-02
Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, darling dears! It's #TutuTuesday again, which means it's time to delve into the captivating history of our beloved ballet tutus! Today we're whisking back to the elegant era of 1869-03-02 - such a perfectly picturesque date for our voyage! Now, darling, I can't give away too many time-travel secrets, but trust me, you'll adore this journey with your Emma.
Let me tell you, the journey through time is quite the adventure. * A couple of weeks ago I was twirling under the Parisian moon at the Opera, catching a glimpse of the legendary *Marie Taglioni, her legendary white tutu making my heart skip a beat! Her grace and ethereal elegance in those billowing layers were enough to make me want to pull a Marie and spin off to the moon!
Now, about 1869… You know that dreamy feeling you get when you step into a boutique bursting with exquisite fabrics and gowns? Imagine a whole room full of these! This is what it was like stepping into a shop in 1869 - particularly the shops selling fabric for dresses, tutus and even bonnets! Oh, darling, I love bonnets! So you see, our time-travel destinations are also incredible shopping adventures!
*Speaking of bonnets… *
Fun Fact! Today, the world is celebrating Queen Victoria's birthday! You see, she was born on this day in 1819. Now I wouldn't say I’m the biggest fan of Victoria. It was the men, who were her favourites (if you know what I mean! Ha! You girls understand!). She gave such an amazing kickstart to the dance world and really set the style for many years! I can’t thank her enough for this! It’s my favourite style and I really loved it at the Opéra!
Now darling, a quick chat about 1869 and its fashion delights: Imagine, no elastic! (Now this is just unacceptable!) The French romanticism of the ballet, which started in the early 1800s, made these tutus quite extravagant, using loads of layers of delicate fabrics! I’m going to find some for my shop on this trip back…
Can you picture it? This romanticism really gave the ballerinas such a flowing elegance - the tutus with all these soft layers were like an ethereal dream. *What was on this day in 1869, darling? * Oh well, a world-famous premiere of 'Cinderella', at the Opéra Garnier in Paris. (Imagine the incredible costumes - like something out of a fairytale! Ooh, you’re not going to want to miss it!) You can still find many of the famous ballerinas's tutus - a real historical treasure hunt! This is my favourite era for tutus! There was so much drama!
