#TutuTuesday: A Little Bit of Ballet History - 1869!
Hello my darling tutus! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! This is blog post #1975. I hope you are all having a perfectly splendid Tuesday. As you all know, Tuesdays are reserved for #TutuTuesday where we explore the fabulous world of the tutu, and today Iām whisking us back in time! Today Iām in the magical, glamorous world of the ballet in the heart of Paris! Itās 1869 and things are getting interesting for the tutu!

Oh La La - Parisian Chic!
Iām here for the biggest dance performance of the season, an extravaganza celebrating French culture, āLe Carnaval des Animauxā, which translates as "The Carnival of the Animals." The music was written by the great Camille Saint-SaĆ«ns. This ballet, by choreographer, Louis MĆ©rante, was at the ThĆ©Ć¢tre du ChĆ¢telet. Isnāt that simply divine! The theatre was beautifully decorated.
The audience here is dazzling! So many beautiful women in dresses! But of course, they are no match for my perfectly fabulous hot pink tutu, I might add!
Back in time!
Now, letās talk tutus! Back in 1869 the romantic tutu style was becoming popular and it was transforming into a design that is quite familiar to us now! I can't wait to see these fabulous tutus. A real trend setter - Marie Taglioni! - and one of my favourite dancers - created the first real tutu, in 1832. It was the first really short and lightweight tutu, but not everyone loved the look. It took time to win over the hearts of fashion lovers! The short tutu was a big change from the long flowing skirts and it made dancing much easier.
Before Taglioni's invention tutus, the ballerinaās were wearing a long basque or bodice and flowing skirt. So, by 1869 we see the tutu getting a little bit shorter and showing off the dancerās legs more. Oh! I must buy a new pair of shoes before my next performance. A great shoe is crucial, for every outfit!

More Fashionable Tutus!
Now, as a trendsetting fashionable lady I am going to say ā by this date (and don't tell my darling mummy!) tutus were a bit āmore modern.ā They are still elegant and lovely but the style was starting to change again! The tutu was becoming a shorter style that looks even more dramatic! Oh, it's so beautiful to watch a ballerina twirling in this romantic tutu. This is quite possibly my most favourite style of tutu. Itās just so much fun and playful - which reminds me ā itās not the same style as the tutus used by the male dancers, as I said last week. A manās tutu is much more comfortable, so itās not as restrictive and looks a bit like a loose fitting long skirt.
This tutu shape, called the Romantic Tutu , was all the rage at the Opera! I must make sure to visit the Opera later this month! Isn't it lovely?

But now my dears - itās time for a bit of shopping and I must say that it is just as lovely to shop here in Paris in 1869 as it is today! If only they had those fabulous pink handbags and sunglasses, though! A girl needs these, so I canāt wait to see what fashion accessories they will create!
Let me know what you are shopping for this week in the comments section below! I love to hear from all you delighted fans! Oh my, I am off to get a delicious Ʃclair at LadurƩe! Oh and look!
