#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through the 1870s! 🩰✨
Greetings, my darling Tutu Twirlers!
It's your favourite pink-clad time traveler here, Emma, bringing you another instalment of #TutuTuesday! I'm so excited to be back on #pink-tutu.com and diving into the world of tutus! It's week 1986, which makes me so thrilled as we explore the past and find some seriously amazing vintage tutus.
This Tuesday, we're stepping back in time to 18 January 1870, a day when fashion and the world of ballet intertwined in ways you wouldn't believe! I'm picturing myself in a vintage gown and a beautiful, lacy tutu as I transport you back to this wonderful era. Imagine the rustling silks and the exquisite detail - it’s a dream!
Tutu Talk - 1870: The Early Days of the Ballet Tutu 🩰
Ah, 1870! It's still early days for the modern tutu, but trust me, even then, things were pretty fantastic! Imagine layers upon layers of tulle, gracefully flowing in soft, dreamy cascades. Think less of the sharp, precise lines we know and love today, and more about a cloud of ethereal elegance.
While tutus are the epitome of graceful movement for me, it's worth noting that the women performing in them still had to contend with those constricting corsets, just as everyone else did. The silhouette, while undeniably glamorous, wasn't always the most practical. Thankfully, fashion is always evolving.
I just adore the old ballet photos of this time. All of the ladies looked so delicate and sweet in their feathered headdresses and lavish tutus, like flowers blooming on the stage. The costumes, especially the tutus, truly reflected the romantic spirit of the era.
A Trip to Paris
Of course, Paris was where the fashion heart truly beat. Think of Parisian salons buzzing with excitement over the latest designs, the whispers of delicate fabric, the glint of twinkling jewels, and the soft, dreamy colours that defined the Parisian style. And you can't forget the vibrant and dynamic energy of the ballet scene in the heart of Paris!
As a passionate ballet dancer, nothing beats a live performance. That rush of energy you get as you hear the music rise and fall with the dancer's movements is absolutely thrilling! So I can just picture myself, a whirlwind of pink and tulle, getting lost in the opulence of a Parisian theatre in the early 1870s, sipping some sparkling lemonade as I watch the magical spectacle unfold on the stage!
Beyond Ballet
Tutues are no longer just for the stage. We can have so much fun and celebrate everything we love, just by stepping out and expressing our inner twirling spirit. Think vibrant tea parties with friends, romantic walks through the park, even a cheeky shopping trip for a new outfit! You don't need to be a ballerina to rock a tutu! In fact, I believe that every girl should be able to twirl their heart out in a tutu, wherever they go!
And what would 1870 be without a delightful, afternoon tea? You could pair a stunning tutu with a beautiful gown and make your afternoon tea feel like a decadent dance! I must admit, I do love a proper English afternoon tea myself, it’s such a tradition for me! It just adds a touch of classic elegance.
Finding Your Own Tutu Magic 💫
I've mentioned several times how much I adore pink. Honestly, what’s not to love about that perfect shade? It is the colour of playful confidence, feminine beauty, and pure joy! Every shade, from pale blush to hot pink, feels so vibrant and charming.

Whether you're going to a ballet performance, or just spending a lovely day with friends, remember to unleash your inner tutu girl!
