#TutuTuesday: A Peek into the Past – The Romantic Era!

Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, your very own #PinkTutu advocate and time-traveling ballerina. I hope this finds you twirling merrily, perhaps in a pink tutu, or at least, contemplating the sheer joy of it all. Today we’re celebrating a glorious day: May 10th, 1870.

This week's #TutuTuesday adventure takes us back to the Romantic era – an epoch known for its lush, dreamy, and dare I say, slightly dramatic artistic style, much like our pink tutus, don’t you think?

Imagine yourself in Paris…

The city itself is a whirlwind of artistry and grandeur, the air filled with the strains of waltzes and the rustle of silk skirts.

I’ve hopped aboard the Gare du Nord, a magnificent cathedral of a train station, ready for a soirée at the Paris Opera itself. What a treat! The grand marble and gilded halls of the opera house – ah, they just beckon me to waltz and pirouette! I've packed my most charming pink tutu – the one with the flowing layers and exquisite embroidery, just perfect for the swirling energy of this era.

What’s Happening on This Glorious May Day?

But before the curtains rise, let's peek into the Parisian life of this magical day!

It's likely the Parisian elite are adorned in elaborate ball gowns, showcasing exquisite embroidery and feathers. Their eveningwear speaks of opulence and artistry, mirroring the Romantic aesthetic of the day.

And I bet a performance by Jules Perrot – the ballet maestro who perfected the technique of tutu-wearing - is the talk of the town! His iconic choreographies set the scene for countless elegant leaps and airy ballets, solidifying the tutu as the ballerina’s pièce de résistance. It’s just utterly charming, isn’t it?

From Ballroom to Ballet…

Of course, no true Parisian ball is complete without a grand waltz, and we can’t talk about grand waltz without thinking of the Strauss Brothers! They've taken Vienna and Europe by storm with their elegant, evocative music, and we might be enjoying a rousing rendition of their famous Blue Danube Waltz right now. The graceful steps and swaying rhythms are simply irresistible!

And of course, a visit to the Parisian salons – havens for artistic expression and social gatherings – would be in order. Imagine the lively discussions, the rustling fabrics, the laughter…all against the backdrop of the most artistic city in the world. It's an atmosphere I simply cannot resist.
