#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History: 1871-01-10 - Post #2037
Hello darlings, and welcome back to my humble blog, Pink Tutu! I'm your ever-so-pink-loving ballerina, Emma, and as always, it's a joy to share my love for the art of dance, the history of tutus, and of course, my ever-growing collection of frilly, delightful pink tutus.
Today, my dear readers, we're whisking back in time to the grand and romantic 10th of January 1871! This is the kind of day that sets my tutu a-twirling. Picture this: London, the heart of Victorian fashion, the streets buzzing with carriage rides and the faint smell of horse-drawn cabs. The theatres are alight with glittering performances, and the latest dances are all the rage in the social circles. Itās quite the fabulous day, just how I like them.
Oh, did I tell you I travelled by train to get here? There is nothing like travelling by train in your very own pink tutu.
Fashion Focus: Romantic EleganceThe 1870s saw fashion, darling, embrace romanticism. Iām talking flowing fabrics, delicate laces, and voluminous skirts! Ladies were all about that whimsical look, much like my beloved tutus! Think ruched sleeves, ruffled collars, and those gloriously full, trailing skirts. I swear, even the men were wearing ruched blouses back then. The fashion scene in London, I can say, is truly thrilling, from the boulevards of Oxford Street to the stately houses of Mayfair.
Now, imagine the waltz - itās the most elegant and captivating dance in the ballroom right now - paired with the exquisite fashion of the era! And for those who wish to create the same graceful effect but with more twirling, why, they must adopt a tutu! Itās simply an essential accessory for a sophisticated, well-dressed Victorian lady, you know.
Ballerina Spotlight:And who are we featuring for our #TutuTuesday ballerina spotlight today, my lovely lot? Itās none other than the extraordinary Fanny Elssler, the femme fatale of the dance world in this very period! Now, Elssler was an Austrian ballerina with a magnetic stage presence, darling. Imagine an aura of passion, intensity, and artistry in a beautiful, dramatic ballet costume, thatās Elssler for you. And letās not forget her signature high kicks and elaborate Spanish dances, they truly enthralled audiences in London!
Now, when weāre talking tutus, we've got to talk about Elssler. She made tutus a little less fluffy and more fluid, don't you see? She went with tighter, longer ones, making movement easier. She revolutionized ballet with her freedom and sensuality, pushing the boundaries of performance! Elssler is a legend in the world of dance, darling, and I am deeply honoured to highlight her as the muse of todayās #TutuTuesday post!
### A Night at The Theatre
London in 1871 is a true ballet lovers' dream, my darlings. If you're craving some serious dance excitement, be sure to catch the ballet āThe Last Days of Pompeiiā by Luigi Manzotti. It's thrilling drama, full of intense tragedy, love, and powerful storytelling. And the music? Why, you wouldnāt want to miss it! The dramatic crescendos, the delicate pianissimos - it is truly magnificent.
To really complete your theatrical experience, don your most beautiful attire! Think a silk gown in a deep burgundy, paired with some delicate floral accents or perhaps a flowing velvet cape in a gorgeous dark emerald. You'll be a picture of sophistication as you settle in for a breathtaking night of art. But, why stop at a dress? Weāve got a full Victorian scene set here. Letās add a little pink to the theatre scene! Who's going to be bold enough to walk in with a pink, romantic, flowy tutu, maybe a tulle scarf, and matching blush pink gloves? Would that work, do you think?
Shopping spreeOf course, any trip to London wouldnāt be complete without some proper shopping, darlings. My love for tutus is unwavering, and I simply can't leave a visit to London without hunting for some magnificent fabrics and beautiful lace! After a visit to the theatre, the best stop in town is always Bond Street, donāt you know. I just have to pop into Madame Elise, the premier shop for fabric and all things feminine in London. Their fabric, oh, itās to die for! The textures, the colours! We have silks in every shade imaginable - delicate silks for a whimsical and delicate tutu, or heavier silk for that bolder, more glamorous tutu. They have velvet! Imagine how dramatic a deep forest green or royal blue velvet tutu would be. Oh, my dreams, they are already spinning! I simply canāt leave without several yards of lace! I need to keep adding to my own wardrobe of tutus. You see, darlings, it's always about quality! Iāll make my way down Bond Street in search of exquisite ribbons, trimmings and adornments!
Letās wrap this up, darlings! So, thatās a little glimpse into my 10th of January 1871, a magical time with exciting theatres, romantic fashion, and the always inspiring ballerina Elssler! As I bid you adieu for this #TutuTuesday post, remember that a little bit of whimsy can make all the difference in the world, so don't be afraid to embrace a touch of tutu in your life!
Until next Tuesday, dear readers, may your hearts be filled with dance and your steps be full of joy! Don't forget to keep spreading that tutu love, and follow my every adventure on my social media and website, pink-tutu.com!
