#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 1871-08-01

Hello, lovelies! Welcome back to another delightful dive into the enchanting world of tutus on #TutuTuesday! I'm Emma, your time-travelling tutu-tastic guide to all things frilly and fabulous. Today we're hopping back to August 1st, 1871, just when the tutus started gaining some serious popularity. Imagine - tutus are starting to become THE go-to outfit, a little like how we love our skinny jeans today. This is blog post number 2066 for my Ballet Tutu History blog, which I update weekly at www.pink-tutu.com. If you’ve never been, do check it out! There's enough information in it to make even the most dedicated tutu-lover faint!

So, let's gather around, my dears, and transport ourselves to the year 1871! Paris was the center of the ballet universe back then - think a glamorous, sophisticated world where everyone was all about the arts. Tutus, those heavenly concoctions of tulle and silk, were starting to become quite the fashion statement, you know? They were no longer just for the stage - you could see ladies strolling around the elegant gardens of Paris wearing them, or, say, popping to a fancy cafe. It was all about creating an ethereal, feminine look, something that brought a dash of romanticism and elegance to the world.

Picture this, if you will: Ladies in shimmering silk gowns and oh-so-fluttering tutus, waltzing and swaying in the summer sun, the gentle scent of roses filling the air - how absolutely divine, isn't it? This period in history, the late 1800s, was a true "golden age" for ballet and tutus, especially the romantic tutu, with its longer, sweeping silhouette that flowed gracefully as the dancers moved. It truly embodies all that is graceful, elegant and a tad whimsical, right?

Oh, speaking of grace, on August 1st, 1871, the world was celebrating a big ballet event: The first ever performance of "La Source" at the Paris Opera House! It was truly a glorious night - can you imagine? That shimmering, graceful movement, the stunning music and the costumes! It's just wonderful! Can you just imagine being there on the 1st August, surrounded by those fantastic people with their elegant, oh-so-stylish tutus and feeling the magic of the ballet performance in that grand Parisian Opera House? It would be absolute bliss!

And now, just like that, we’re right back here in 2023, wearing our fabulously frilly tutus. What an extraordinary adventure it was! If you love travelling like I do, be sure to keep up with this blog. I plan to make a series of travel blog posts - it would be truly extraordinary to share my journey across the continents by train, with tutus as the central focus.

For now, though, I hope I've ignited a little bit of tutu-love in your hearts today. Don't forget, darlings - the world is a much prettier place with a pink tutu in it! I love you all, and until next week’s Tutu Tuesday, may your days be filled with twirls, flutters and, of course, pink tutus.
