#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through History, Post 2109
Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink-loving ballerina blogger, Emma, back for another fabulous #TutuTuesday adventure!
This week, we're taking a grand trip back in time to 28th May 1872, to see how the world of ballet tutus was blossoming!
As always, I've got my trusty pink tutu packed, along with my little suitcase filled with some gorgeous vintage finds from a recent trip to Paris - more on those later! But first, let's dive into the fascinating world of the tutu's evolution, shall we?
1872: A Time of Change for the TutuIn the 1870s, the world of dance was truly changing, with a new wave of talent and innovation. It's around this time that we see the classic Romantic tutu, with its wispy layers and airy design, truly emerge. You see, before the 1870s, tutus were more like billowing, dramatic gowns. But around 1870, those layers got shorter, showing off more of the legs and allowing for greater freedom of movement - oh, the joy of pirouettes!
Think Marie Taglioni, the queen of the Romantic ballet. Her effortless grace and ethereal elegance revolutionized the way ballerinas moved, and the tutu played a pivotal role in bringing her graceful performances to life. Imagine, she's gliding through the air, a pink tutu billowing behind her. Oh, it makes me shiver with excitement!
Imagine, a stage adorned with plush velvet curtains, the scent of beeswax candles and powder, a shimmering spotlight illuminating a delicate ballerina, adorned in a fluffy tulle tutu. It's like stepping into a fairytale! And that, my dears, was what the Romantic period was all about - creating magic on stage!
My Favourite Part? Fashion! But you know me, I can't talk about history without a little sprinkle of fashion. Now, I'm lucky to travel back in time thanks to my amazing dancing, you see. After performing a little show, I often find myself in a different time, a different city!
In 1872, the colours of choice were pale pastels and soft shades of pink. But that just makes my pink tutu stand out even more, and let's be honest, there's no better colour in the world, am I right?
As for style, it's all about creating a silhouette that whispers "fairytale". Think flowing tulle, shimmering silk, delicate lace, and tiny, whimsical slippers. We are talking elegance and grace, darling, a beautiful vision that only ballet could bring to life.
A Trip to Paris!Right now, I'm back in London, my favourite city for finding gorgeous ballet gear. But a recent trip to Paris has filled my suitcase with treasures from that glamorous city, including a new, oh so elegant black lace and velvet opera cloak, just perfect for those chilly evenings in the theatre! Oh, the joy of ballet season. Itโs not just about dancing but also fashion and making a statement!
