Tutu Tuesday #2147: The Wonderful World of the Tutu!
Hello, lovelies! Emma here, your favourite tutu-wearing time traveller, ready to whisk you back in time to 1873 for another delve into the delightful world of ballet history. Today we're venturing back to a particularly magical time - 18th February 1873 - a date that may seem ordinary, but trust me, it was full of sparkling magic.
And where did our adventure take us today? None other than the glittering city of Paris, the beating heart of ballet, fashion, and of course, pink. It wouldn't be Tutu Tuesday without a healthy dose of our beloved colour!
Pink Tutu-tique: Paris in 1873 was a swirl of colour and creativity, particularly in the world of ballet. The famous Opera Garnier had been inaugurated a few years prior, its grandeur and elaborate costumes rivaling the performances themselves. You could say the Opera Garnier itself was a stage for the art of fashion!
But let's talk tutus, darlings! Though the modern ballerina tutu we know and love was still a little way off, a graceful precursor was taking the stage by storm. Imagine flowing, romantic tulle cascading around dancers' legs, evoking ethereal sprites and delicate flowers. They were like ballet dreams made real!
Of course, you can't forget the colour! While black reigned supreme, pink was becoming a bold choice, its vibrant shade capturing the air of joy and lightness in the ballet. Even back then, people understood pink meant playfulness, creativity, and sheer loveliness. It's the colour that brings smiles, even on a grey Tuesday!
Tutu Tuesday Time-Travelling: Did you know? 18th February 1873 was also the day of a special performance at the Opera Garnier! "La Source" - a captivating ballet overflowing with beautiful dances and whimsical scenes, no doubt enhanced by the glorious whirl of tulle and blush of pink. How divine!
A Pinch of Paris: Let me tell you, shopping for tutus in 1873 was quite the adventure. Think of bustling shops overflowing with fabrics, threads, and ribbons, where each item was a testament to craftsmanship and love. I found myself mesmerised by exquisite silk gowns and bonnets - the perfect way to dress up your tutu look, darling!
Speaking of tutus, did you know sewing classes were a popular pursuit for women in Paris during this era? It's amazing, how ballet not only enthralled audiences but also sparked a passion for fashion and art, creating a wonderful creative environment!
Ballet in Bloom: This time, I didn't just stop at the shops. The beautiful Parisian parks with their blooming cherry blossom trees? Imagine posing in a tutu amongst those ethereal blooms, creating your own little Parisian ballet scene! Talk about capturing the heart of femininity and joy!
As we say in my home county of Derbyshire, "a bit of pink never hurt anyone!" Why not make this week's #TutuTuesday a Parisian affair? Let's embrace the enchanting legacy of tutus, dance with the spirit of those early Parisian ballet lovers, and find a little touch of pink in our everyday lives.
Until next week, keep swirling, and always remember...the best part of a tutu is that you can wear it anywhere!
Lots of love, Emma xx
