#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History: 1873 - 09 - 30

Hello my darlings! It’s Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood time-travelling ballerina, back again for another #TutuTuesday post! Today, we're taking a twirl through the ballet world of September 30th, 1873. Buckle up, darlings, because you’re about to be transported to the world of shimmering silk, elegant movements, and – of course – tutus!

This week, my time machine landed me right in the heart of Paris, the city that breathes ballet! Paris, my dears, is the capital of the tutu! Imagine, tutus aren’t even a hundred years old yet, but they're already captivating the world, captivating me! I feel a thrill just thinking about all the swirling skirts and intricate choreography waiting for me to witness.

Now, back to 1873. We’re right in the thick of the Romantic era, a time of lavish sets, ethereal stories, and, most importantly for us, the beginnings of the iconic tutu we know and love! In this era, dancers were freed from the restrictive corsets of the past, embracing softer fabrics and lighter movements. And can you imagine, darlings? Some say that this was the time of the first ever tutu made from tulle! I simply adore the sound of that - tulle is a dream come true, light as a feather, so feminine and floaty. Oh, to imagine dancing in a delicate tutu of pure tulle!

What’s on the bill today, you ask? Well, for this trip, I'm making my way to the Paris Opera to catch a performance of "La Esmeralda" - an incredibly moving piece with its story of a beautiful gypsy girl who captures the heart of a young man in love. You just know there’s going to be beautiful dancing and drama galore, all set in the heart of the Notre-Dame Cathedral!

You can bet your bottom dollar I’ll be scouring the Palais Garnier for some Parisian fashion inspiration - a glimpse of the most fashionable trends! Maybe a charming silk dress, or perhaps an elegant velvet hat, perfect for adding that Parisian chic to any ensemble! It's all about keeping up with the latest trends, even back in the 1800s!

While I’m out shopping, don’t you worry, I’m going to be keeping a keen eye out for any little glimpses of future trends. Who knows, perhaps we'll catch a glimpse of something that’s about to take the world by storm! But the main thing on my agenda is soaking up that delicious Parisian culture, catching those magical dances on stage and feeling the spirit of the era!

Fun Fact: For this journey, I had to get my hands on a delightful dress with an off-the-shoulder neckline! Such a flattering and elegant cut. To think, that in just a few decades the off-the-shoulder will become the essential trend! A fashion trend worth keeping your eye on!

Speaking of trendsetters, we'll delve into the evolution of tutus a little later. But until then, be sure to check out www.pink-tutu.com for some serious tutu inspiration! And let’s all embrace the beauty of movement, expression, and the elegance that only a well-crafted tutu can inspire.

Oh, and a reminder: don’t forget to catch my next post on #TutuTuesday, coming to you next week! Don’t be a stranger, darlings, and I'll catch you next time with more glamorous and fashionable journeys through the history of the most fabulous invention in the world – the tutu!

Lots of Love and Pink Kisses!

Emma
