Tutu Tuesday: A Peek Into The Past (Post #2186)

Hello, darling dears! It’s Emma here, your resident tutu enthusiast, and welcome to another fabulous Tutu Tuesday! Today, we're taking a trip back in time to 18th November 1873, and trust me, it's a whirlwind of fashion and history we're about to explore.

This week, my time machine whisked me to… Paris! Ooh la la, the city of romance, art, and, you guessed it, ballet!

Imagine the thrill of being in Paris back then, with the air buzzing with creativity and the cobblestone streets filled with dashing gentlemen and elegantly clad ladies. My time travel outfit for this jaunt? Well, naturally, it's a delightful, shimmering pink tutu – a touch of the Derbyshire countryside in the Parisian whirl!

Now, you might be thinking, "But Emma, tutus in 1873? Were they even a thing?!"

Let's just say, dear friends, the tutu as we know it was still finding its footing. We were in the age of romantic ballet, with ballerinas adorned in voluminous skirts, lace, and delicate flowers. Think less poof and more flowing romance. However, certain elements of the future tutu were starting to emerge, like the shorter, lighter skirt that allowed for greater freedom of movement. And believe me, these were trailblazers!

Today, we are in Paris on the 18th November, so we’re getting ready to watch the beautiful Madame Legros perform at the Théatre de l’Opéra-Comique. She is going to grace the stage with her impeccable technique and stunning performances – her ability to tell a story without speaking a word, just using her body movements, is pure magic. But let’s go back in time a bit…

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Marie Taglioni! This incredible ballerina was revolutionising the way we perceive ballet back in 1832. With her innovative choreography and her daring costumes – gasp, including a tutu that revealed the calves for the very first time – she changed the dance world forever!

Remember, ladies, ballet and fashion have always been intertwined, a delicate dance between grace and elegance. It was the perfect blend of artistry and artistry. From the 18th-century ballet slippers crafted with painstaking precision to the ornate tutus with yards upon yards of luxurious fabric, fashion played a crucial role in showcasing the elegance and virtuosity of ballet. It was (and still is!) about bringing together style and movement, and giving us all the opportunity to showcase the power of grace in motion.

So, my dear tutu-loving friends, let’s channel that romantic spirit and make sure our ballet journeys are filled with sparkle and inspiration! Don't forget to embrace the power of the tutu and spread its message of beauty, strength, and boundless imagination.

Until next week, darlings! Remember, keep your heads held high and your tutus twirling!

Emma
