#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 1874-10-20 🩰💖

Hello darlings! It's your favourite tutu-loving blogger, Emma, back for another #TutuTuesday instalment of Ballet Tutu History! I'm so excited to whisk you back in time today, as we explore the captivating world of tutus on 20th October, 1874!

Before we embark on this historical journey, I just had to share a dreamy experience from last week! I travelled by train to Paris for a dazzling ballet performance - oh la la! The dancers wore such gorgeous costumes - imagine swathes of tulle in shades of blush, powder pink, and, of course, a smattering of my favourite hot pink! The ballet itself was a captivating story of love and adventure, and I absolutely loved it!

Now, back to the history, my lovelies! It's the year 1874 - a period in fashion where extravagance and embellishment ruled the day. The French haute couture houses, oh so fabulous, are already embracing the airy, lightweight and flowing elegance of tutus, using tulle and muslin as their star fabrics! The ballet is becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment - audiences are enchanted by the elegance, beauty, and skill of these graceful dancers.

On this day, in particular, at the prestigious Opéra Garnier in Paris, there was a breathtaking performance of La Bayadère - a tale of love, betrayal and sacrifice. It was absolutely divine! Imagine - ethereal dancers floating across the stage, the light reflecting off their swirling pink tulle tutus! The choreography was exquisite, each movement a whirlwind of grace and beauty. It was a reminder of why we, my dear readers, adore tutus so!

However, my dearest readers, whilst these incredible dancers are taking centre stage in Paris, here in London, there are other forms of fashion delight! A must-visit is the Grosvenor Gallery where they're currently holding an exhibition of Pre-Raphaelite Art. The artists of this movement are all the rage! Their beautiful use of colour and intricate details reflect the trends of 19th century fashion so well. You can bet the ladies attending are rocking their very best corseted gowns, adorned with delicate lace, ruffles, and, you guessed it...ribbon! A pink bow, a la tutu, is an absolute must-have to complete your pre-Raphaelite look!

Speaking of ribbon - you know how much I love a good bit of embellishment! Imagine how glorious a pink tutu would look, decorated with a cascade of sparkling ribbons! My vision is already blossoming! My sweet friends, let's spread the joy of the pink tutu and embrace our inner dancer, no matter what the decade! Think of how gorgeous a vibrant pink tutu would look on all of us! Can't you just picture ourselves waltzing around, feeling light as a feather?

On that note, I must depart to prepare for my next adventure! I’m heading to the theatre tomorrow night - I've heard the newest musical, The Pirates of Penzance, is to die for! It features beautiful costuming and, I hear, a dash of ballet! Sigh, how divine. As always, don’t forget to stay tuned for more exciting updates next TutuTuesday! Until then, be sure to share your own favourite ballet tutu memories and dreams with me at www.pink-tutu.com. Let's fill the world with the colour, beauty, and wonder of the pink tutu! 💖

P.S. A little fun fact for you! In 1874, Thomas Edison patented the Carbon Transmitter! What a great day to share some of the wonders of technology and tutus - truly a delightful combination! ✨
