#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Dance Back to 1874! 🩰💖

Hey there, fellow tutu enthusiasts! It's Emma, your pink-tutu-clad time traveler, and I'm back with another installment of #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History! Today, we're going on a whimsical journey back to December 8th, 1874, a date bursting with artistic brilliance and swirling skirts!

As always, my travel fund comes from performing my heart out in ballet shows and street performances. Honestly, there's nothing like seeing those little faces light up when I twirl around in a perfectly pink tutu! 💖 It truly is the fuel for my time travel adventures. This week, I've been in Paris, indulging in all things chic and glamorous, taking in the latest ballet productions, and of course, shopping for more pink tutus! The Parisian shops are overflowing with beautiful fabrics and exquisite designs. They say that a Parisian woman always knows how to carry herself with elegance, and I can't agree more!

But let's travel back in time, shall we? December 8th, 1874 – just think, Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, that breathtaking ballet with the haunting swan melody, is in the works! Can you imagine what a truly spectacular sight it must be to witness on stage? ✨ I've been studying its history in all my time travelling escapades and let me tell you, it's utterly captivating!

So what were tutus like back in 1874?

Well, unlike our present-day abundance of variations, tutus back then were fairly uniform – think graceful romantic tutus! This style was a game changer for ballerinas back then, creating an airy, graceful silhouette that allowed for expressive movements and captivating jumps! It’s basically what you think of when you think of the traditional ballerina tutu!

Now, don’t get me wrong, the 1870s tutus might not have been as flashy as those incredible, almost costume-like tutus we see on stage nowadays, but their simplicity was pure elegance! Think of delicate, softly layered tulle, perhaps with delicate hand-stitching and simple ribbon decorations. The ballerinas then, with their graceful movements, transformed them into absolute works of art!

Remember my mission, darlings, to spread the joy and magic of pink tutus throughout history? Well, I think I found the perfect pink in a shop window in Paris just this week! This delicate shade of pink, the perfect blush, reminded me of the blushing dawn light, it would be stunning on stage! I simply had to buy a huge amount of it to fashion my next pink creation. Watch out for a reveal in my next blog post – it’s going to be fabulous! 💖

Speaking of Paris, on this very date in 1874, a brilliant architect, Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, finished rebuilding the medieval fortress at Carcassonne! That is one magnificent place and truly something to see! So, there’s my history lesson, folks, full of graceful ballerinas, a budding symphony by Tchaikovsky and grand historical reconstructions, all tucked into that day, December 8th, 1874!

If you’ve been to Carcassonne, tell me about it! And do send your pictures to www.pink-tutu.com I can't wait to hear all about your travels, darlings!

Now, off I go, to the local theatre for a magical ballet performance! Catch you all next week for #TutuTuesday! Remember to share your ballet stories and your own pink tutu adventures!

Keep twirling!
