#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 13th July 1875! 🩰💖

Hello, my darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things tutu!

This week, we're taking a journey back to 13th July 1875. Imagine it: Gas lamps flickering in the streets, the scent of fresh bread from the bakery down the lane, and a delightful air of anticipation buzzing in the air. Oh, and don't forget, tutues are still a magnificent sight to behold!

You might be wondering why we're looking back to this date. Well, darlings, this is when one of the most iconic ballerinas of all time, Anna Pavlova, took her first steps on a professional stage. Oh, she was a vision! Her leaps, her graceful extensions, her utter mastery of the form...she was almost as mesmerising as my new pink tutu, and you all know my love of all things pink!

I hopped on the train last week and travelled to St. Petersburg, the heart of Russian ballet. The Imperial Theatre is absolutely divine, with gilded balconies and an ornate stage. I can almost imagine the gasp that filled the theatre when a young Pavlova danced her way into the spotlight for the first time. It’s easy to see why she inspired generations of dancers - she was like a swan, elegant, powerful, and simply breath-taking!

Speaking of ballet, let's chat tutus! It might surprise you, but back in 1875, tutus were not the poofy, multi-layered delights they are today. The "tutu," as we know it, was still evolving. We were in the era of the romantic tutu, with its layers of delicate tulle creating a cloud-like silhouette. But even then, those layers of sheer beauty added such an elegant drama to a ballerina’s dance, I find myself wanting to skip into a stage performance every time I see one!

Think of it as a beautiful, airy dream - like the delicate tulle of a rose-tinted dawn. Imagine twirling in a rose pink tulle skirt. You are floating on air, pure grace, elegance and an ethereal quality of such simple perfection, it sends shivers down your spine, not because you are cold, but because the beauty of it all. I can barely contain my excitement! I must run and find my latest purchase of rose tulle and design my next pink tutu. You can follow me on social media, dear readers, I will definitely post it up!

Oh, but hold on! Let's talk a bit more about the tutus. It’s not all about the fluff! The romantic tutus in 1875 had an exciting mix of textures, from light layers of tulle to delicate lace and satin ribbons. Ballerinas weren't just showing off their moves; they were showcasing a complete performance of grace and artistic expression. Isn’t it fantastic? It’s a joy! I believe every woman has a graceful ballet dancer inside them! You must try a tutu sometime, they are just so empowering. If you want, I can even send you a few suggestions, on where to buy your first tulle delight, maybe a baby pink or lilac...what do you think, my loves?

Today, on the 13th July 1875, there's an enchanting ballet performance happening at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. Oh, imagine the magic and spectacle!

Let's not forget, dear friends, the history of the tutu is rich and ever-evolving. From the simple Romantic tutus of 1875 to the elaborate tutus of today, they continue to embody the spirit of ballet - beauty, movement, and artistry.

But of course, it's not all about history and fashion, it's also about the passion. The passion to twirl, to move, to express ourselves through the language of dance. And what better way to express that passion than with a tutu? 💖

Keep dancing, keep sparkling, and I’ll catch you all next #TutuTuesday!

Yours in tulle and sparkles,

Emma
