Tutu Tuesday #2279: A Pink Parisian Waltz Back in Time!
Hello, my fellow tutu enthusiasts! Emma here, your time-travelling ballerina blogger, ready to whisk you back to the enchanting world of tutus past! This week, weāre taking a trip back to the elegant boulevards of Paris in the summer of 1875 ā can you believe it?! A mere 148 years ago!
Just imagine: gas lamps flicker on the streets, the air hums with the rhythm of horse-drawn carriages, and a fresh, invigorating breeze carries the scent of blooming roses. The heart of fashion beats in Paris, and itās on a Parisian stage that our story beginsā¦
This date, 31st August 1875, was an especially exciting one for ballet enthusiasts like myself. The Paris Opera House was the centre of the dance universe, and it was on this very day that La Camargo, a new ballet by none other than the legendary Marius Petipa, took centre stage! Can you believe it? The ballet world was abuzz with anticipation!
But back to the tutus, my dearest readers! The dance world of 1875 was a time of remarkable change ā just think how far weāve come, and how similar some trends remain! The grand, flowing skirts of earlier Romantic tutus were already starting to transform into the tighter, more controlled look that we recognise as the classic tutu today.
Picture this: layers of tulle, expertly layered, clinging to the ballerinaās body with graceful, rippling movements, creating a silhouette both ethereal and captivating. A beautiful, billowing, almost-sculpted skirt ā a testament to the sheer skill and elegance of the ballerinas!
Thatās why I call these tutus āRomanticā! It wasnāt just about how it looked, but what it symbolised, and what it represented. The dancers in those tutus embodied dreams and visions ā those innocent, fragile ballerinas on pointe, poised at the edge of a whisper of fantasy!
It's these elements ā elegance, refinement, the almost ethereal essence - that we still celebrate in tutu design today. Just imagine how thrilled those ladies would be to see the dazzling tutus of todayās ballerinas!
And now, letās talk a bit about how I got to this Parisian balletā¦ I took the train, naturally! That journey itself is part of the story. Can you imagine travelling by train to Paris for a grand opera? I must confess, sometimes I miss the age of steam-powered trains, with their romantic whispers and the bustle of the station ā thereās a certain glamour to that old-fashioned travelling, a sense of anticipationā¦ but thatās a story for another Tuesday!
To fund my time-traveling adventures, I, of course, dance. You could say I'm the modern-day equivalent of a travelling ballet artist. This week, I'm performing with a wonderful dance company in Derbyshire. We're doing "The Sleeping Beauty" - and yes, you guessed it! I'm the Fairy of Love!
When not dancing, I'm off shopping for vintage lace, beautiful fabrics, and ribbons for my own custom-made tutus ā those Parisian shops, magnifique! And of course, I am always on the lookout for those special items ā those unique finds to inspire my designs!
This week, I found an exquisitely hand-painted Parisian fanā¦ can you imagine, a delicate spray of roses in pale hues against a cream background, the lace just whispering along its edge? Now, imagine pairing this with the perfect blush-pink tutuā¦ Ooh, the possibilities!
Well, darlings, thatās all from me this week! Keep those tutus twirling, keep that pink shining, and donāt forget to check in next Tuesday for another captivating dance back through history! Until then, keep it pink, keep it tutu-ful, and rememberā¦ everyone can look good in pink!
