#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post 2285 - 12th October 1875
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, back with another instalment of #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History! It's the 12th of October, 1875 today, and if you're wondering why I'm here in Paris, well, let's just say the ballet is absolutely divine here! It's an absolute must for any tutu-loving soul!
Now, you've all probably guessed that I love ballet, right? But did you know my obsession goes way back? In fact, my absolute passion is learning about the history of the tutu itself, which is why I travel all around the world โ on the train, naturally, as it's far more elegant than those stuffy flying machines! โ exploring its fascinating past.
So today, let's delve into the early days of the tutu! In 1875, tutus weren't just a little fashion trend - they were practically revolutionary! Just think, in the mid 1800s, ladies were confined to layers and layers of crinolines and bulky skirts. Imagine how constricting that must have been for any form of movement, let alone dance!
Then came Marie Taglioni! This visionary ballerina was the epitome of grace and elegance. Not content with those stuffy skirts, she debuted a revolutionary design in 1832 โ the Romantic Tutu. This lightweight, sheer creation revealed her legs, adding a new dimension to the movement and expressiveness of the ballet.
We're talking airy, ethereal fabric, reaching to the ankles and ending with a frill. Imagine it! A cascade of romantic, delicate tulle. This was the moment where the tutu really started to make its mark as a symbol of ballet. Don't you just love it!
From then onwards, the tutu really began to bloom, with each era giving it a new, dazzling makeover! By the 1870s, the Romantic Tutu evolved, becoming more intricate. It still showcased the elegance and movement of the ballerina, but now it boasted additional details and frills. These early tutus, with their simplicity and delicate layers, were like an enchanting whisper, a testament to the freedom of movement and the sheer beauty of ballet itself!
Speaking of movement, just yesterday, I saw an incredible ballet performance here in Paris. The Parisian Opera House is simply spectacular! I sat mesmerized by the swirling tulle and the elegant dancers - oh, it was so inspiring! The ballet they performed, Coppรฉlia, is based on a rather charming tale, full of life, mischief, and of course, beautiful choreography. The colours were spectacular! The tutus? Absolutely breathtaking! A rainbow of pink!
As for the shopping โ oh, it's pure heaven! There's a quaint little boutique on Rue de Rivoli which sells the most stunning accessories. Just imagine, delicate silk flowers, pearl necklaces, even tiny little satin bags for your most treasured trinkets! These tiny embellishments would elevate your very own tutu to the height of fashion. It's enough to make a girl's heart flutter with joy!
Paris is indeed the fashion capital for a reason. I feel completely inspired by the elegant atmosphere and the beauty surrounding me! After all, fashion and ballet go hand in hand, don't you think?
So, my lovely tutu enthusiasts, go forth and be bold with your fashion choices! Don't be afraid to make a statement and add a splash of pink to your everyday wardrobe! Embrace the spirit of the tutu - freedom, elegance, and the joy of dancing through life!
And if you're lucky, you might even find yourself dancing through the history of ballet like me! Until next week, dear readers, stay pink, stay fabulous, and *always keep those tutus twirling!
With Love,
Emma
