#TutuTuesday: A Whirlwind Back to 1877! 🩰
Hello, my lovely tutu-loving darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things tutu-rific! It's Tuesday, which means it's time for our weekly delve into the wonderful world of tutu history!
This week, I've taken a little trip back in time - a quick jaunt on the steam train to February 6th, 1877! It was an absolute dream, I must say. The bustle of Victorian London, the hansom cabs, the charming gentlemen in top hats – a truly enchanting sight!
Post #2354 – A Tutu for Every Occasion?
Now, you might be thinking, "Emma, tutus in 1877? Surely they weren't quite as common as they are today?" Well, my dear readers, you'd be half-right! Tutus were certainly present, but they were a far cry from the fluffy, layered masterpieces we adore today.
You see, back then, tutus were more like a simple, knee-length skirt, with a single layer of tulle, perhaps a few frills - think slightly less voluminous than what we might wear to our ballet class nowadays! The designs were often more practical than glamorous, crafted with strong, durable materials for the rigorous movements of the ballet.
But don't worry! The Victorian ladies certainly had their fair share of fashionable frills! Imagine the elaborate gowns, the exquisite hats adorned with feathers and flowers, the gentle shimmer of silks and satins! You couldn't tell a dance performance from a grand ball without the programme in hand, so vibrant and extravagant was the dress code of the time.
A Day in the Life: My 1877 Adventures
Imagine my excitement! It was just like stepping into a book! My train ride took me through beautiful rolling countryside – think quaint cottages, sheep grazing in emerald fields – and then I was greeted by the magnificent, bustling city of London!
The very first thing I did, naturally, was head straight to the theatre district. Oh, the joy of witnessing a real, live ballet performance! This week, it was a performance of La Fille Mal Gardée, which is still popular even now!
Imagine this, my dears – the ladies were dressed to the nines. Corsets, bonnets, flounced dresses, the ladies made quite the impressive sight, while the gentlemen in their waistcoats and fine hats, watched with fascination. It was all so elegant and grand.
You might be wondering, "Emma, didn't you feel out of place in your bright pink tutu?" And let me assure you, I definitely turned some heads! But that's part of the fun, right? Bringing a little bit of tutu magic wherever I go, however much the styles have changed!
Tutu Trivia: Did You Know...?
Did you know that on February 6th, 1877, a little town in England, called* *Shrewsbury, hosted a* *Shrewsbury Horticultural Society Exhibition? Can you picture it? Flowers, vegetables, trees, all on display in the grandest of halls! Imagine the perfect floral arrangement for a pink tutu - what a spectacular pairing!
Speaking of Shrewsbury - Did you know that Shrewsbury is the home of Shrewsbury Cakes ? I have it on good authority from my great, great grandma that they're absolutely delicious, and a perfect post-ballet performance treat!
