Hello my darling tutu lovers!
It's Emma here, your resident tutu enthusiast, ready to take you on another whirlwind journey through the glorious history of ballet! This week, we're stepping back in time to the 11th of September, 1877. Now, picture this: cobbled streets, horse-drawn carriages, and a world buzzing with anticipation for the latest trends.
Just like today, fashion was a big deal back then. The ladies of the day adorned themselves in extravagant gowns, bustles, and corsets, but let's be honest, these were a far cry from the graceful freedom of a tutu!
Thankfully, ballet was finding its footing in a world eager for something more fluid and exciting. While the modern tutu, as we know it, was still evolving, its roots were already taking hold.
And guess where I landed for my latest time travel adventure? Paris! The heart of the fashion world and the city that was just beginning to embrace ballet as a high art form.
What was happening on 11th September 1877?
That's where my friend, the trusty history books, come in! I found a mention of a production of "Giselle" at the Paris Opera. Can you imagine?! A story of love, betrayal, and the haunting magic of a wilis – all wrapped up in a classic ballet setting. It’s the sort of performance that makes my heart sing!
Imagine the hushed whispers of the audience as the dancers pirouetted and leaped in their soft, flowing skirts – the earliest ancestors of the tutu! While those early ballerinas were more likely to wear layered tulle or muslin, the concept was the same: to allow movement with a touch of airy elegance.
Now, I know what you’re thinking, my dearest readers – what about those dramatic, billowing tutus that we know and love? Those came a bit later! It wasn’t until the late 19th century, after the rise of the Romantic ballet, that tutus began to adopt the fuller, poufy shape that would forever redefine ballet. It was a testament to the ballet dancers' incredible skill, their graceful jumps and daring turns a beautiful sight to behold.
Speaking of tutus, my outfit for this week’s time travel? A dream of pink! I found this absolutely gorgeous vintage creation with delicate floral embroidery in a quaint little boutique nestled among the bustling streets of Paris. Its sheer fabric, light as a feather, felt perfect for embracing the spirit of that 1877 audience, all while showcasing my signature pink!
My adventure in 1877 is far from over. You can bet I'll be taking full advantage of my time here to see more shows, explore the city’s charming cafes, and maybe even pick up a few vintage Parisian fashion finds for my own collection! I can't wait to share more stories and glimpses of life in Paris.
Don’t forget to come back next week for more Tutu Tuesday fun! Until then, keep those pink tutus twirling and remember, the world is your stage!
Stay lovely, my dear readers, and remember:
Love, pink, and tutus, always. Emma www.pink-tutu.com
