#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post #2408
Greetings my fellow tutu enthusiasts! 💖🩰
It's a glorious Tuesday, and you know what that means – time for another journey through history, in search of the magical evolution of the ballet tutu!
Today, we're boarding the express train from Derbyshire, where I left my lovely pink tutu at home (yes, it travels with me everywhere, darling!) to visit the beautiful Paris in February of 1878. It’s the city of love, the city of lights, the city of fashion… and oh darling, the tutus! I’m feeling so very excited, this is the golden era for our beloved garment!
This Week's Historical Highpoint - A Real Dress-To-Impress Affair
Let’s have a peek into what’s happening in the world of fashion around February 19th, 1878. This year’s fashion calendar is absolutely bursting with the excitement of a brand new theatre production. Can you guess what it might be? It's not Swan Lake, or Giselle, but rather something just as enchanting, "La Source" by Léo Delibes! Can you imagine, darling? Such romantic music, and a stunning story to boot!
For me, as a devoted tutu aficionado, what makes "La Source" truly special are the absolutely glorious tutus! You see, darlings, this isn’t your average classic romantic tutu. Oh no, this one is much more flamboyant – long, lavish, and with an air of real Grecian-inspired grandeur. Just thinking about those flowing layers and graceful movement gives me chills!
Speaking of chills… this is also the time of year when fashion is getting extra, well, dramatic. You see, ladies and gentlemen are preparing to go to the opera… shivering and clutching their coats at this thought! Oh dear! But let's talk tutus, shall we? Because in the theatre, fashion is truly glowing with elegance. Ladies are in a full flounce of layers, bonnets with intricate flowers, and those magnificent bustles! You couldn't get a more stylish silhouette than this. Oh darling, how I adore this era.
Where to Go Shopping in 1878?
Now, where might a fashion-forward darling like myself visit for a dose of theatrical tutu-tastic inspiration? First, I have to tell you about the utterly divine Worth House! It’s simply bursting with the most elegant dresses you could ever dream of. I’m not talking your everyday tutu here! This is haute couture with a capital "H." I do adore those fabulous cascading fabrics, each perfectly pleated and falling so delicately.
Of course, the lovely Parisian shops themselves are bursting with fashion ideas. Think, oh darling, the most glorious silks, velvets, lace, and even, get this, feather trim! What a time to be alive! Just imagine walking the cobblestones of the city of lights, with those magnificent Parisian windows displaying all these marvels – what a spectacle!
Now, here is the key – this is the era where our beloved tutus start truly emerging from the depths of fashion. We're starting to see that distinct shape! Imagine, it's just bursting onto the scene, a sign of our tutu love taking shape, quite literally. Just think, oh darling! I imagine myself back in 1878… surrounded by stunning silk tutus in every colour of the rainbow, dancing about in my own bright pink tutu. Just a small bit of modern fashion thrown in to spark things up, a bit of timeless fun, you see!
Finding Inspiration in the Parisien Life
While we’re in the French capital, I can't miss a chance to explore the charming salons and beautiful cafes, surrounded by all this fashionable energy. Darling, there is simply so much joie de vivre and creativity! What I adore most about Paris are those vibrant public gardens, the elegant ballet and the grandeur of the theatre… oh! And the enchanting beauty of Parisian architecture – oh my, simply divine. All these details of Parisian life are truly a source of inspiration for my darling tutus. Can you imagine, oh darling, how gorgeous tutus will look adorned with these delightful patterns?
Parisian life at this time is filled with an elegant simplicity, a stylish harmony. Imagine the delicious taste of fresh croissants, the clinking of champagne glasses at the grand theatre, the whispers of ballet, and the graceful figures of ballerinas performing on the stage, twirling with breathtaking elegance.
Oh! darling! I truly believe the time is coming to bring the glorious spirit of these lovely ladies to all of our tutus! Let us not forget that, while we admire the history of the ballet tutu, let us remember the fun that is possible with these magnificent creations, both past and present! I simply can’t help but feel giddy with joy at the sight of those amazing, sweeping silhouettes!
Our Tutu Future – A Journey Towards a World Full of Tutues
Now, darling, as we continue our tutu voyage across time, let’s take a moment to dream about where the tutu journey might go next. With every year, every step, our beautiful garments get ever closer to embodying those elegant, daring visions of our dreams. It seems that even now, tutus have captured the heart of fashion in the 21st century. Imagine a world, dear reader, where everyone dares to embrace a bit of this tutu love and freedom of movement!
As my dear tutus and I travel the world on my fashionable time travels, my mission remains: To find joy in every era and sprinkle a bit of that sparkle into every tutu!
I promise you darling, it is not a far cry from those flowing silken fabrics of the Parisian salons of 1878, to our modern tutus and street wear… the evolution is right before our eyes. My heart sings every time I see my pink tutu. Now, as I pack up my memories of my journey to Paris, and ready to set off on another week, let's all raise a glass, or rather, a teacup to the extraordinary world of ballet and tutus, the eternal inspiration that ignites our hearts.
Until next Tuesday darling,
Emma x
