#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 23rd July 1878 - Post 2430

Bonjour, mes chéries! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, where tutus are the only dress code we know! Today's #TutuTuesday takes us all the way back to 1878 - the year the world was buzzing about Marie Taglioni's 'La Sylphide' and, wouldn't you know it, the year a new ballet, 'Coppélia', debuted in Paris! Can you imagine?

As I stepped off the train in Paris today, I practically did a pirouette with excitement! It's been quite the journey, travelling by train from Derbyshire all the way here. Let's face it, a girl's got to be efficient with her funds. My ballet performances always pull in enough for a first class carriage, and that means the chance to wear my best Parisian frock and, of course, a very stylish tutu - today, it's a magnificent confection of tulle in a blush pink shade - just divine!

This journey, dear readers, was all in the name of #TutuTuesday! Today's date, 23rd July 1878, marks a significant moment in ballet history. You see, this was the day 'Coppélia', a charming tale of a young man, a doll, and the heart's desires, first took the stage. This ballet, my lovelies, introduced us to one of the most iconic and whimsical tutus in history!

Now, I do adore a classical tutu with its perfectly symmetrical tiers of stiff, layered tulle, but the 'Coppélia' tutu is all about movement and playful femininity. Imagine, if you will, a fluffy, graceful cloud of pale pink tulle cascading down in swathes - yes, my dears, the tutu was a beautiful, billowing 'pas de bourrée' in itself, swirling with every leap, pirouette and chassé!

It was almost as if the choreographers understood the spirit of the ballet itself: playful, full of life and light, a celebration of the joyous nature of romance. This little ballerina who plays CoppĂ©lia has an undeniably charming energy, with the tutus amplifying those sentiments - they don't just accentuate movement, they create it! It’s a captivating blend of romance and innocence, making it one of the most endearing ballerina tutus ever created!

As I waltzed through the streets of Paris, a delicious croissant in one hand and my signature pink tutu swirling around me, I couldn't help but be in awe of this ballet’s influence. 'CoppĂ©lia' not only marked a milestone for tutus and their movement, but also influenced how we envision a certain kind of femininity, even to this day! A dash of whimsy, a touch of fairytale magic - what’s not to love about that? It's not only in the tutu, it's in the ballet's enchanting score - just as ethereal and joyful as the ballerina’s performance!

Today, as we reminisce on the impact of 'Coppélia' on ballet history, I find myself lost in thought. It's incredible to think that almost two centuries ago, this ballet graced the world stage with such enduring elegance, inspiring generations of ballerinas and fashion lovers. But more than anything, it reminded me that our own fashion, and by extension, our own stories, can be written with a sprinkle of magic and a twirl of tulle. And for me, that sprinkle is pink!

So dear friends, as we celebrate the exquisite 'Coppélia' tutu and its influence, let's embrace our own creative spirit and let it shine through our wardrobe choices! You know I love a stylish tutu moment, but I know each of you are brilliant fashion icons, with the most stylish and unique tutus in all the land! Remember: a well-chosen tutu speaks volumes!

Until next Tuesday, I urge you to remember, dear readers, to add a sprinkle of 'Coppélia' whimsy to your life, no matter your style. It's always a beautiful thing to find the magic, the 'pas de deux' of life's joy and elegance, through a touch of grace and femininity! And if it involves tutus...even better!

Your Tutu-licious and eternally pink-loving,

Emma
