#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time - June 24th, 1879! (Post #2478)
Greetings, my dearest tutu enthusiasts! Welcome back to another #TutuTuesday! Today, we're embarking on a fabulous time-travelling escapade to the romantic and enchanting world of ballet in June of 1879! Itâs my dream job to flit between time periods and explore the delightful history of the tutu! It's how I fuel my passion for pink, of course - a good ballet performance certainly covers the train tickets and my tulle fix!
As always, I've adorned myself in a breathtakingly fluffy pink tutu, perfect for waltzing through the cobbled streets of Paris! This city is an absolute delight for a tutu-lover like myself. You just canât go wrong with a show-stopping Parisian tutu!
Ah, 1879. A time when tutus were taking center stage (literally!). You see, our little dance garment has a history far more colourful than you might imagine. Imagine delicate silk swirling in graceful movements, the tutus of this era were almost ethereal, much like the stories they were telling. Youâd often find these graceful frothy beauties in ballets like "Giselle" - all about a poor country girl and a ghostly encounter with her love interest! Honestly, this story always brings a tear to my eye, and that was before the time travel, so it must be the dancing!
But, letâs have a little look at how fashion evolved from the era I arrived in, shall we? Back then, tutus werenât just for ballet! If you could believe it, my lovely readers, they were a common sight for evening wear, a bit like today's fabulous cocktail dresses! The difference is that then they were often made of tulle with a sheer bodice - not just plain silk and sequins, like we love in modern designs. How they did anything in such voluminous wear is beyond me!
Think flowing lines and voluminous silhouettes - think classic ballet in its peak. A truly magical period for dance and style, indeed. Today, it's considered more âdeconstructedâ - but itâs hard to top the Victorian aesthetic. All those ruffles and lace - you know Iâm obsessed! My biggest tutu wardrobe inspiration was from Victorian times - I'd buy every single tulle and silk dress if I could. I'm convinced those ballerinas were even more dedicated to the fashion side of ballet. We must always thank them for their contributions!
Now, onto the grand affair in question! June 24th, 1879, was marked by the grand debut of none other than [NAME] - a magnificent ballerina who stole the show at the [Name of Ballet Company or Theater] in [Location]. Can you imagine that stage, aglow with gaslights, showcasing such beauty and grace?!
I know exactly what youâre thinking: Where do I go to see this beauty? Well, luckily you wonât have to travel too far â because [Name of Ballet Company or Theater] is still in operation today, and is renowned for its beautiful performances! Imagine! My own Derbyshire, a county famed for its rolling hills and mines, has such incredible artistry. Now I must investigate further to discover any connection the dancers of today might have to the amazing legacy of the period! It's always exciting to find links in the timeline of my favorite art!
For your tutu pleasure, Iâll share some tips for getting the most out of a trip to the [Name of Ballet Company or Theater] today, should you get the travel bug, just like me:
Pick the right tutu: No matter how tempting it is, do make sure that your tutu is truly elegant! For a theatre ballet performance, a classic tutus in ivory or black would be beautiful - think vintage romance and charm. A longer tutu could even add to the Victorian touch! If you decide on a pink tutu (and you should - it is, after all, a classic look) remember a delicate, barely there shade would be just perfect!
Accessorize wisely: What makes a tutu outfit stand out is that little extra that sets you apart! Think of delicate flower details, perhaps some elegant jewelry, and, if you're going for the full 1879 effect, maybe a fancy parasol to protect your perfect makeup from the afternoon sun. There are loads of stunning shops and market stalls close by, just make sure you choose vintage lace, fabrics, or pearl detailing to perfectly capture that beautiful Victorian charm.
Plan your pre-show ballet spree: Paris, my dearest readers, is a truly wondrous ballet wonderland! Imagine: boutique after boutique with delicate fabrics and exquisite tulle for the most amazing creations.
A good old fashioned cup of tea is a must: There's just nothing that complements a gorgeous ballet show more than a proper afternoon tea! A lovely little treat at one of the quaint teahouses - they'll always have fresh cake too, as long as you're early. You will get an exceptional afternoon treat out of a pre-show ballet trip. I swear, a nice English afternoon tea always elevates my artistic experience.
Well, that's it for this week, my lovelies! Until next Tuesday, keep spinning and twirling!
