#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - December 23rd, 1879 - Post #2504!

Greetings, dearest readers!

Itā€™s Tuesday, and that means itā€™s time for another #TutuTuesday delve into the fabulous world of the tutu! Today, weā€™re whisking back to the 1870s, an era brimming with exciting ballet advancements and an oh-so-pretty style I just adore.

Hold on tight, darling, as I hop onto the carriage for our journey through time to Paris, the glittering heart of the dance world. Imagine, my dears, the excitement as the train steams into the Gare du Nord! I absolutely adore the rush of arrival and the sheer thrill of seeing all the gorgeous Parisian ladies in their lovely gowns and bonnets.

But what does our dear tutu look like at this time? Oh, my, this period saw the tutu reach its peak of romantic beauty! Itā€™s still a short, tiered skirt, you know, with a generous amount of layers and that utterly delightful "fluffy" appearance that has my heart fluttering. The most captivating thing about these 1870s tutus, though, are their colours. Picture soft shades of lavender, ethereal pink, and even delicate, powdery blue. Can you just imagine a tutu swirling on stage like a fragrant cloud? Pure perfection!

We are still a few years away from the arrival of the "Classical Tutu," my dears, so we can't quite yet see those long, sleek lines that you adore from those classic ballets, but I still think itā€™s an absolutely magnificent silhouette, full of romance and delicacy!

And for our grand finale this Tuesday, I simply have to mention the amazing ballet dancer, Marie Taglioni, who completely captivated Paris at this very time. Her dancing was truly spectacular, and her presence onstage in her dreamy, flowing tutu must have been a sight to behold! Sadly, we can only imagine how glorious her dance must have looked as she pirouetted across the stage!

You simply must be reminded, my lovelies, that Paris in the 1870s was a vibrant dance mecca. The theatres were brimming with excitement, with the likes of the Opera Garnier bursting with exquisite ballets and glorious dancers, just waiting to spin their stories through a swirl of tutus!

Now, my dear readers, itā€™s time for me to bid you a fond farewell for now. But before I go, please donā€™t forget to explore your inner ballerina and maybe add a touch of tutu magic to your own world, too! After all, every day is an opportunity to celebrate dance and embrace that lovely feeling of being completely twirl-worthy!

Until next #TutuTuesday,

With love and a twirl,

Emma

P.S. Have you been watching any exciting ballets this week, my dears? Share your stories with me! Letā€™s celebrate our shared passion for the ballet together!

What was happening in the world on 1879-12-23?

You know, darlings, even on a Tuesday, there's always something happening in the big wide world, especially in that busy place, Paris!

It appears this December day saw some intriguing stories in the newspaper:

  • The news reported the "terrible earthquake" which had devastated a region of Spain just days before. Thankfully, the newspapers could report no loss of life, but this incident undoubtedly left a feeling of nervousness around Europe. It was the most substantial earthquake to be felt in Spain at this time!

  • *The paper reported on the increasing popularity of the railway. * As an avid train traveller myself, it's so wonderful to see the railway reach more and more people. The accessibility and wonder it brings to travel has completely transformed our lives, darlings!

  • The *Journal des DĆ©bats* highlighted the death of a well-known painter, Mr. A. Leleux, a loss felt greatly throughout Paris!

  • And on this very same day, in another part of the world, my dears, the Royal Geographical Society hosted an address titled "Explorations in New Guinea." I wonder if we shall one day find ourselves travelling that far!

You know, this date was not a complete void, and it shows just how busy the world is and how connected we really are! There is a feeling that our world has come such a long way, and what is a journey through time without those wonderful moments to remind us just how far we have come.

I hope this #TutuTuesday blog post has brought you joy and inspiration, my lovelies!

Until next Tuesday, let's continue celebrating our passion for dance and keep our own stories moving forward!

Love and twirls, Emma x

The Power of Pink!

(Now that youā€™ve gone back to the past with me, youā€™re likely thinking I have an endless supply of ā€œpinkā€ tutus. Well, itā€™s true - my love for pink is pretty deep!)

I find so many delightful shades and variations! Some pink can be as strong and vibrant as fuchsia, while other shades whisper like a blush rose! The delicate pink tutus of the 1870s have inspired me, especially the colours. The romantic styles make me swoon! You see, Iā€™m a firm believer in the transformative power of a pink tutu! It lifts your spirits and adds a touch of magical sparkle to even the most mundane day.

As the ultimate pink tutu advocate, I'm thrilled to see pink tutus gaining momentum. Fashion designers have been using the color in their collections with greater and greater confidence, which really inspires me to make everyone wear pink! Iā€™m not a shy girl when it comes to wearing pink, and itā€™s lovely to know that so many are embracing the fun and joyful side of this bold hue!
