#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post #2573 - 1881-04-19
Hello, darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, here, ready to whisk you away on another #TutuTuesday journey into the wonderful world of ballet history. This week, we're skipping back to 1881-04-19, and let me tell you, the ballet scene was just beginning to bloom!
I landed in the heart of Paris, the undisputed centre of ballet in the 19th century. It's simply bursting with creative energy, and even though we're talking a good 142 years ago, fashion is still utterly glamorous. And let's face it, dear readers, the whole point of time travelling is to indulge in fabulous attire! Today, it's all about puffed sleeves, delicate lace and intricate embroidery - and I just had to pick up a stunning Parisian-style hat with a gorgeous plume to top off my favourite pink tutu, of course!
The Opéra de Paris, the legendary venue, is a stone's throw from my hotel, and it's where I've come to witness a dazzling ballet performance of Giselle. Honestly, I'm speechless! The ballerina dancing the title role is exquisite, her every movement so graceful and ethereal. And let's not forget the costumes! Delicate floral patterns in pastels and pale pink (oh, I adore!), perfect for capturing that romantic air of the era.
But before we get carried away with the glitz and glamour, let's talk tutus! 1881 isn't exactly known for its tutu experimentation. We're still very much in the classical romantic era, so think billowing layers of tulle in simple shapes. You know, the tutus that just make you sigh with pure, girly joy!
There's a wonderful ballet school around the corner, where I had a chance to try my hand at some classic steps - I just can't resist a good pirouette, even in my travelling time-travelling tutu. And oh, did I mention that there's this gorgeous silk fabric shop nearby? They have the most exquisite satins and velvets for tutus - the sheer volume of beautiful fabric makes my head spin!
I am already making mental notes for my next tutu design. You see, darling readers, my mission in life is to inspire every single one of you to embrace your inner ballerina and step out in a gorgeous pink tutu. And if my travels through time can help, well, so much the better!
You'd be surprised what treasures you can find if you go back in time! The sheer artistry and craftsmanship behind even the simplest ballet costume is astonishing. I'm so excited to share more of my adventures with you all. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to explore the beautiful Musée Carnavalet - they say it's full of captivating portraits of dancers from the period, all of whom are sure to inspire my next pink tutu design!
Stay tuned, darlings, for more #TutuTuesday adventures next week!
Until then, remember: every day is a good day to twirl in your pink tutu!
