#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Blast from the Past! (Post #2585)

Hello, my darling dears! It's Emma, your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller, back for another dazzling dose of #TutuTuesday! Buckle up your ballet shoes, we're whisking off to 12th July, 1881! 🩰

I’m standing here on a glorious day in London. Imagine! No traffic, but elegant horse-drawn carriages pulling up at the Royal Opera House, which is just as impressive as ever! The scent of horses, freshly-cut flowers and a hint of warm leather lingers in the air. I'm here for the Royal Ballet performance - and guess what? You won’t believe the extraordinary thing that happened. cue the dramatic music!

Today, I had a front row seat to something quite extraordinary! Now, you may not realise it, but the story of tutus has all sorts of amazing chapters. Today, I was watching the Paris Opera Ballet performing in London. But before I dive into all that Parisian glitz, you have to imagine me – my pink tutu billowing in the air as I rush through the hustle and bustle, excited about this historical ballet. You see, the ballerina I saw tonight was a legend in her time, wearing a brand-new style of tutu. A new kind of tutu.

The name of the ballerina is Marie Taglioni - she was the absolute top of her field, famous all over Europe! Tonight, her elegant dance moves, beautiful artistry, and revolutionary costume were simply divine. This is where my little pink heart almost jumped out of my chest. It was beautiful! Marie wore the first Romantic Tutu, and let me tell you - it’s quite different from those classical designs. You know the stiff, fluffy ones that resemble a cone - a bit like a lampshade for your bottom? This Romantic Tutu is the opposite - long and flowing, ethereal! Think gossamer wings, delicately cascading around the ankles, showcasing her every graceful step.

You know I adore a good transformation! Imagine seeing such an elegant, delicate creature dancing, showing off those incredible, perfectly shaped legs, her pointe shoes, and all the artistry that flows out from her - so ethereal! And just look at her elegant movement – she glides across the stage, no rigid moves or stiff, constrained dance postures! She moves with grace and natural, elegant fluidity. Her arms reach out with elegant ease and flow - so beautiful. You'd never believe such beautiful things were possible in ballet. She's a vision! sighs dreamily.

Think of how many ballet students in 1881 must have wanted to copy her new style! The Romantic Tutu revolutionised dancewear – It’s a must have for every serious ballerina!

My dears, what exciting times for ballet lovers like me! There’s such a lot to explore. What will the next amazing development in ballet be? Just think what Marie Taglioni’s new tutu might inspire! A new wave of innovative ballerinas. The beauty of dance! The power of style! Isn't it just magical? We've already come so far in the story of the tutu, just from the first simple little white petticoat. We've seen it evolve, transform, and I just know there are even more amazing fashion transformations in store for us.

You know that in the spirit of sharing the excitement, I just have to show off my newest purchase - my little pink tutu of course! A lovely, soft tulle, trimmed with lace. Just imagine me wearing this with a light summer dress and a gorgeous hat! bows dramatically That's all for this week, darlings, but be sure to keep coming back every #TutuTuesday for more of the thrilling tale of the tutu! And, be sure to check out my post next week where I share some lovely little vintage photographs! sends kisses to the audience

Until next Tuesday! 💖
