#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post #2588
Hello my darling dance devotees! Itās Emma here, back for another instalment of your favourite weekly dose of tutu-tastic history. Iām coming to you live from none other than...Paris! (Cue the ooh-la-la!). This incredible city has been a haven for all things dance, fashion, and romance for centuries, and it's easy to see why.
As you all know, my mission in life is to spread the joy of pink tutus. It's about more than just twirling ā it's about expressing yourself, embracing the joy of dance, and stepping into your most confident, most fabulous self!
Today, my lovelies, weāre journeying back in time to 2nd August 1881, a day etched in history not just for the fashionistas, but for the ballerinas among us too! I'm currently having a heavenly hot chocolate in a cafĆ© near the Palais Garnier, the stunning opera house that serves as the grand home for the Paris Opera Ballet. This very spot has played witness to some of the most spectacular ballet performances the world has ever seen, and thatās exactly where we are headed next!
Speaking of the Paris Opera Ballet, did you know they were making history in 1881? They were celebrating their new director, the incredible LĆ©o Delibes! Delibes wasn't just an ordinary choreographer ā he was a visionary! This was the man responsible for the beautiful, delicate music for āCoppĆ©lia, which was still making its debut on the Paris Opera Ballet stages.
Oh, darling! Just picturing myself in a pink tutu dancing on that very stage gives me chills! The costumes for āCoppĆ©liaā are absolutely enchanting, featuring a whole world of pretty pink ribbons, swirling skirts, and even those incredible tutus in all shades of loveliness.
This day, in 1881, the whole world of dance, and even those who wouldn't be caught dead at the ballet, were captivated by this glorious new ballet! If I'd had my time travel tutu back then, I would have definitely graced those Parisian cobblestones, taking in the spectacle of the performance in my own special style.
Speaking of captivating performances and enchanting costumesā¦what has got me swooning even more today? I happened upon a shop on the Rue de Rivoliā¦ just bursting with vintage finds, especially glorious old costume fabrics! Think silky satins, lace, feather boas... a dream come true for a vintage tutu fanatic like me.
As we dance through the pages of ballet history, donāt forget that a little bit of magic can be found everywhere! It's in the vibrant dance of the performers, the shimmering fabric of those beautiful tutus, and most importantly, in the spirit of spreading joy and a bit of glitz!
Just remember, my dears, the most beautiful tutu is the one you feel most confident wearing! Don't be afraid to twirl, embrace your inner ballerina, and always let your pink tutu shine! Until next Tuesday, stay lovely and happy, darling.
P.S Donāt forget to share your favourite tutu moments and pictures on our pink-tutu website and letās spread the joy of the pink tutu to the world! I love seeing you all express your love for dance and your style!
Love,
Emma.
