Tutu Tuesday #2615: A Blast from the Past, Darling!
Hello darlings! Emma here, your very own pink tutu-wearing time-travelling ballerina! It’s a brand new #TutuTuesday, and guess what? We’re taking a trip back in time today, to the 7th of February, 1882. Hold on to your tiaras, because this trip's gonna be fab!
Fancy a Flutter Through History?
I’ve always loved history, especially the history of fashion! It’s fascinating to see how our outfits change with the times. Today’s journey brings us to the enchanting world of the ballet. I’m standing here in the heart of St. Petersburg, the ballet’s playground, ready to give you a sneak peek at how tutus looked a while back.
Now, you’ll find that tutus in the late 19th century weren’t as glamorous as those worn by modern dancers. Back then, they were long and full, and I must confess, not exactly en pointe for leaping around the stage. The dancers had to rely on their incredible technique and grace, instead of those gorgeous, modern-day pouffy tutus.
Think swirling clouds of white tulle, adorned with simple embroidery, like a dusting of sugar. Just imagine how delicate it all looked, like the fluttering wings of a graceful butterfly. If I’m being honest, I think the designers had more room for creative flair when they weren’t working with a shorter skirt! The emphasis then was all on the ballet's elegant storytelling.
A Moment in Time: 7th February 1882
What were ballerinas like me doing back in 1882? Well, if we’re being super accurate, you couldn’t exactly spot me dancing in St. Petersburg, seeing as I'm still 80 odd years off! But for the 7th of February in that year, let's just imagine I'm taking a virtual turn around the ballet world.
What I can tell you is, a ballerina called Theodora Genée, born here in London but taking the world of dance by storm in Russia, is making waves on stage, performing with the Imperial Ballet.
And who was she dancing for? No less than the Imperial family! That's right, my dears, these days, royalty were as passionate about ballet as we are today!
Now, let's fast forward back to present day and have a look at some gorgeous real-life inspiration for all those aspiring ballerina fashionistas out there...
Shop, Shop, Shop, my Darlings!
Time to chat about some contemporary fashion. It’s always a treat to head down to the stores and scout for all things girly, whether I'm shopping for a new pair of ballet shoes or a tutu. Now, since we’re talking about tutu-inspiration, how about we have a look at this exquisite creation that's caught my eye?
Imagine a pink satin top paired with a fluffy tutu made from layers of shimmery tulle. This combo has so much elegance and sparkle; I could just twirl all day in it. A real modern classic! I wouldn’t wear it to class, but if you're heading out to see a show, this outfit screams "I adore ballet!"
Pink is Always Perfect
Now, let’s not forget the most important element of a ballerina’s style: the pink! We’ve gotta have our touch of femininity, right? And, just like back in 1882, even the most exquisite outfits need a touch of that sweet, charming pink colour to truly shine.
Whether it’s a subtle pastel pink, or a shocking bubblegum pink, you just can't go wrong! It’s a shade that exudes elegance, confidence, and an endless sense of style, making it the perfect choice for every ballerina – just like us!
Tutu Tuesday Inspiration:
Don't forget, darlings, that you don't need to be a ballerina to enjoy wearing a tutu! It’s a way of life. It’s a feeling. If you’re after inspiration, here are a few ideas:
- Dance your heart out! Go for a spin on the dance floor. Who needs a stage when you’ve got a great outfit?
- Create your own Tutu Tuesday. Even if it’s just for fun in your own living room. Wear your favourite pink tutu and strike a pose for the camera!
- Step outside your comfort zone. Embrace that inner-ballerina spirit and experiment with different outfits. Remember, anything is possible!
Let’s spread the pink tutu love, shall we? Post a photo of your favourite pink tutu look with #TutuTuesday, and maybe we can even meet up at a ballet show sometime.
See you next week, darlings! Until then, keep on twirling and keep those pink tutus sparkling!
Love, Emma xx
