#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 1883-10-23! π©°πβ¨
Welcome back, tutu-lovers! It's Emma here, your time-traveling tutu enthusiast, ready to whisk you away to a fascinating time in ballet history! Today is #TutuTuesday, which means it's time to dive into the evolution of the fabulous tutu! π
For this week's #TutuTuesday, we're waltzing back to 1883! Fancy stepping back in time with me, dear reader? This is the 2704th post on my www.pink-tutu.com blog! Isn't it divine? π
It's a glorious Autumn day here in Paris. I love how much the trees change colours in Autumn, especially the bright yellows and reds! Such an artistic contrast for this tutu-loving blogger! The crisp air just screams 'new season fashion', doesn't it? π
Now, what are some fascinating fashion facts about the ballet tutu in the late 1880s?
Well, for one, the iconic tutu is really starting to become an unmistakable symbol of the ballet! π©° And this year was special because on this very date October 23rd, 1883, the beautiful dancer Mlle. Cleo de Merode, a true fashion icon of the time, dazzled audiences in Paris. You know how much I adore seeing incredible performances, right? π Well, her costume was breathtaking! A fluffy, layered tutu, perfectly capturing the air of romance that defined the era's ballets.
Imagine the gasp in the theatre, the gasps in the audience as they gazed at her graceful movements, twirling, a vision in soft layers! It was a moment that sparked an explosion of tutus across the stage! The petit pas de basque and the elegant, romantic pirouette just shimmered, emphasizing the exquisite design of the tutu and the grace of its ballerina!
And the design? Oh my darling! We see tutus transforming, becoming less of a single layer of tulle and embracing the layers for an extra, added flutter and grace as the ballerina moved! Imagine the feeling! The movement of tulle against your skin! π The lightness of it, and the grace it would lend to each pose and en pointe movement, truly making them a dance partner in this ballet tale.
Did I mention that on this day, there were several new theatre shops springing up in Paris and the provincial cities? Oh, my darlings, I must confess my absolute weakness is to spend a fabulous afternoon going shopping. It truly makes me the happiest! And these new shops mean an array of fashion inspiration and beauty waiting to be discovered.
Let's think of colour! Just picture all those colours! Imagine the tutus, oh I think they were divine. We are talking swathes of peach and lavender, the colours of romance! And thereβs something about the way the sunlight filters through tulle, isnβt there, creating a subtle rainbow that mesmerizes. Isn't it divine? And let's not forget the shimmering silver, an accent to add just the right touch of extravagance! Isn't that the perfect shade to match the glistening stage lights and that sense of glamour? πβ¨ The delicate sheerness of tulle allowed these shades to shimmer and whisper with the most delicate of dances.
And speaking of colour, I must absolutely shout out about my absolute favourite shade, of course! My absolute favourite colour is pink, a splash of femininity to a magnificent garment like a ballet tutu! π©° π I truly love pink, as every true fashionista should, it is, of course, the most beautiful of shades!
So many exciting moments happening in 1883! The excitement of a brand new shop, or a new show in town is simply intoxicating, isn't it, my darlings?
It is so magical to explore how ballet, style, and dance have blossomed throughout history, donβt you think? Imagine travelling back to 1883 in your very own pink tutu! I could certainly imagine taking the train from Derbyshire for a beautiful journey to Paris, visiting the grand Parisian boutiques, imagining the luxurious silk and velvet textures, maybe finding the most incredible tulle, so airy, a soft ballet mist. π It's what truly keeps me going - those stories!
Letβs be honest, nothing can quite match the excitement of spotting the perfect tutu in a Parisian shop or watching a breathtaking ballet performance! What better way to spend an evening in 1883, donβt you agree, darlings? π
