#TutuTuesday: A Blast from the Past (and a Glimpse into the Future!) - Post #2756

Hello lovelies, and welcome to another #TutuTuesday from your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller, Emma! I'm currently whisked back to 21st October 1884, nestled right in the heart of Paris, France - the absolute capital of ballet, and where else could I be but soaking up the stunning theatre scene!

Oh my goodness, Paris is like a symphony of colour and beauty. The architecture, the people, the fashion – it's a visual feast! The city's been abuzz this week with anticipation for the new ballet at the OpĂ©ra Garnier. Now, you can’t talk about 19th century ballet without mentioning Marius Petipa – this remarkable man is, in my humble opinion, the true King of Ballet choreography. Imagine my excitement when I discovered that tonight, he was bringing his latest creation, “La BayadĂšre,” to the stage!

And the costume designs – divine! This year is all about the Romantic ballet era, with delicate tulle and a light, graceful aesthetic. While the "romantic" influence had faded somewhat by the 1880s, the ballet tutus were still remarkably short, emphasising the dancer’s elegant legs and movements. Imagine, darling, the dancers performing in the exquisite* “Kingdom of the Shades” scene*, which is a spectacle of light, airy, white tutus, swirling with such elegance! I'm utterly smitten by their sheer elegance.

Now, back to my TutuTuesday story... I've got my pink tutu packed, as usual, but I must confess I've added a black velvet ribbon to the waist. A dash of Parisian flair, wouldn't you say? After all, when in Paris...

Oh, my little pink-loving cherubs! Let’s step back for a minute and discuss the true meaning of the ballet tutu. We often talk about it being a symbol of grace and beauty, but what does it really represent? This wonderful little garment, with its elegant simplicity, allows ballerinas to move freely, gracefully, and effortlessly. It reveals the dancer's athleticism, her strength, and artistry in every twirl and leap!

Before we go, a bit about me and my adventures in Paris. I absolutely adore spending a day or two browsing the many wonderful fabric and fashion stores that line the Avenue de l'OpĂ©ra, and the beautiful Galeries Lafayette - so many ribbons, trims, and lace. This trip has inspired me to add some pastel blue ribbon accents to my collection – the ultimate Parisian twist, don’t you think?

And of course, there's nothing quite like seeing a ballet in Paris. From the gorgeous chandeliers to the intricately crafted boxes in the theatre itself, the experience is truly magnificent.

Paris is a whirlwind of creativity and passion, with beautiful, elegant ballet as its crown jewel. Until next week, my lovely tutus, keep spreading the joy of ballet and embrace the beauty of the pink tutu! And don’t forget, Paris is just one of many fabulous locations for #TutuTuesday. Next week, I’ll be whisking us away to the magnificent city of St. Petersburg.

Until then, stay tuned for more #TutuTuesday travel tips!
