Tutu Tuesday #2823: A Pink and Frilly Journey Back to 1886!
Bonjour mes chers amis! Emma here, your trusty Tutu Time Traveler, and welcome to another #TutuTuesday adventure! This week, I've packed my bags, grabbed my pinkest tulle, and hopped aboard the trusty Time Express to whisk you back to a rather romantic era โ February 2nd, 1886!
Now, picture this: Paris, the City of Lights. The streets are buzzing with horse-drawn carriages, cobbled lanes, and elegant ladies with fashionable bustles and elaborate hats. Oh, and imagine, the theatres! Filled with gaslight chandeliers, swirling melodies, and โ you guessed it! โ the first stirrings of ballet's graceful tutu!
Before we delve into this fabulous era of fashion and frills, let me quickly introduce myself if this is your first time on the www.pink-tutu.com blog! I'm Emma, your resident Tutu Enthusiast from Derbyshire, England. My passion for all things pink and twirly is only rivalled by my love for a good ballet show!
Oh, and let's not forget the travelling! Funding these amazing adventures requires quite the talent. That's where my ballerina skills come in handy. I earn my time travel allowance through spectacular dance performances across the world, be it a street performance in Paris or a glittering theatre show in London!
So, where were we? Ah yes, 1886! Think cascading layers of tulle, painstakingly hand-sewn and gathered. Now, while those early tutus may not have been the bouncy, swirling, voluminous creations we enjoy today, they were a revolutionary departure from the traditional longer skirts of the era.
Ballet was undergoing a bit of a transformation too. The Romantic era, a whirlwind of swirling tutus and tragic stories, was starting to fade into the shadows of a new era. But that doesn't mean it was any less magical!
Just imagine, stepping into a Parisian theatre that night, the scent of freshly-laundered silk filling the air. The gasp of the audience as the prima ballerina graces the stage, her graceful movements barely brushing the floor, encased in a beautifully crafted, tiered tutu. It's the epitome of elegance, the embodiment of feminine beauty!
And speaking of the iconic ballerinas, let's chat about one of the leading ladies of the day - La Belle Otero! This daring dancer wasn't just known for her grace and artistry; she was famous for her flamboyant, daring costumes that pushed boundaries. And what did she wear on stage? You guessed it! An explosion of pink and frilly tulle, sometimes even topped with an extravagant headdress that would make any feathered peacock blush!
And you know what, dear friends? La Belle Otero, much like me, embraced the power of pink. And wouldn't you agree? What's more regal, what's more empowering than the power of pink?
And that's my #TutuTuesday takeaway for today! Be bold, be you, and don't shy away from that playful touch of pink!
But that's not all, friends! Before you go, I'm just brimming with exciting news! Remember those elaborate hats I mentioned? The Parisian hat scene in 1886 was truly dazzling! Feathers, flowers, bonnets and veils, oh my! They truly were masterpieces, and I can't wait to share my finds in my next #TutuTuesday adventure, which is all about those dazzling hats!
Until next Tuesday, my dear Tutu Time Travellers, let the swirling pink tulle carry you through the day!
Don't forget, we are all about making the world a bit more pink, one tutu at a time! Share your Tutu Tuesday moments using the hashtag #TutuTuesday, let's see those gorgeous pink tutus twirl around the world!
Until next time,
Your Pink Tutu Princess,
Emma
