#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post 2877

Welcome back, darling tutu-lovers! 🩰 It's your favourite pink-clad time traveller, Emma, here, bringing you another dose of Ballet Tutu History from my travels across time and space.

Today's date? Why, it's February 15th, 1887, and I'm right here in the heart of Paris, the very place where tutus have become a symbol of grace and beauty! Just stepping out of the beautiful Gare du Nord station, I can practically feel the fashion buzz in the air. Now, I'm not sure if it's the sheer extravagance of the grand boulevards or the elegant outfits around me, but there's a sense of enchantment that's positively…well…pink! 🎀

Tutu Time Travels:

I know, you're probably thinking, "What's so exciting about tutus back in 1887?" Well, dear readers, that's where you're wrong! The evolution of tutus has been a long and fascinating journey, and trust me, this period is quite the eye-opener!

Enter, the Romantic Tutu: Imagine, if you will, the ballets of this time! They're full of drama, passion, and a hint of mythology, just like the tutus themselves! Picture those flowing, dreamy skirts of layered tulle. These romantic tutus, with their ethereal layers, evoke images of graceful ballerinas floating across the stage like ethereal beings! They weren't quite as fitted or as dramatic as those tutus we adore today, but they paved the way for a beautiful, graceful style of movement that really embraced the power of femininity!

The Art of The Movement: I've been practicing my "attitude" pose in front of a rather charming vintage shop window – the mirror certainly does wonders! This position, so gracefully showcased by the Romantic tutus, involves raising your leg high, almost at a 90-degree angle, revealing the delicate and flowing beauty of the skirts.

Now, I have to tell you about my favourite Parisian store! I stumbled upon this incredible emporium on rue de la Paix – the Maison Worth! Now this was a shop that understood tutus! 🤯 Their beautiful dresses – think delicate fabrics and luxurious embroidery – really took the romantic aesthetic to a new level. Honestly, it felt like walking into a scene from a dream! But darling, the highlight was seeing a collection of hand-painted silks, oh, it was like something from a fairytale! They inspired some seriously elaborate designs for costumes, with layers of silk that whispered with each move!

Beyond The Dance: Did you know, dear readers, that even the everyday style at this time embraced a similar charm? Think layers of tulle adorning everyday clothing! It seems the Victorian Era had an affair with romantic layers of fabrics that were almost tutu-like!

Shopping, Naturally!:

Of course, a trip to Paris is not complete without a bit of retail therapy! Today's purchase is a stunning, wide-brimmed straw hat – the perfect companion for this elegant pink tulle dress, that wouldn't look out of place in a grand opera house!

On To The Ballet:

Now, wouldn't you know it, there's a performance at the Palais Garnier this evening – my lucky day! It's a performance of Giselle, one of the greatest ballet stories of all time! I've seen this performance several times across different eras, and the way those tutus float on stage…pure enchantment, every single time!

A Touch of Paris Magic:

From the beautifully adorned stage, to the dazzling audience – Paris, in 1887, truly knows how to stage a magical performance. Even the ballet posters, with their dramatic designs and intriguing poses of the ballerinas, make this city feel truly electric. The air vibrates with excitement, a mixture of anticipation and the raw energy of artistic passion!

Tutus & Time:

So, dear readers, as I enjoy this slice of Parisian ballet magic, let's remember that even though our tutus may evolve and change through the ages, they continue to hold a unique place in the world of dance! Their ability to captivate and enchant audiences – even those with time-travel capabilities, like myself! – remains timeless!

Until next Tuesday, may your tutus always twirl you into the very essence of beauty and magic!

And, please, darling readers, never be afraid to unleash your inner ballerina – wherever you may be in time and space!

Keep on dancing!

Emma xx
