#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 1887-07-12 π©°π
Hello darlings! Welcome back to another fabulous Tuesday on www.pink-tutu.com, and you know what that means - it's time for #TutuTuesday! This week, we're taking a delightful little trip back in time to 12th July, 1887. Now, grab your tiaras and put on your fanciest frocks, because this date is about to become very interesting!
As a seasoned time-traveler and tutu aficionado, you know I can't resist a good history lesson, especially when it comes to our beloved tutus! It's been an absolute whirlwind of a week - just back from seeing a truly spectacular performance at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow (I do adore the Russian style of ballet, don't you?). And my trip wouldn't have been complete without a shopping spree in the GUM department store - you simply can't find fashion quite like it anywhere else. I've already bought the most divine pink velvet evening coat, complete with a ruffled collar. Imagine the drama!
So, what was happening on 12th July, 1887, you ask? Well, believe it or not, it's the exact date that the great, renowned dancer, La Belle Otero β now that's a name you don't forget! β performed in a revolutionary tutu. Let's face it, her dress was less 'ballet' and more extra. Imagine β lace, feathers, and diamonds... it must have been spectacular! It wasn't a true tutu as we know it today, but the story goes it was incredibly short β a revolutionary idea in the world of dance. La Belle Otero knew how to put on a show! Can you imagine the scandal, the whisperings, the applause! It's a moment that really cemented the beginning of the change in tutus from long and flouncy to shorter and even more fabulous.
This was a very important moment, you see! For years, dancers had been restricted to longer, more cumbersome tutus, sometimes so heavy and layered that they hampered their movements! Think of it like having a large bird trying to fly in a cage. But this moment in time? It was like the bird was set free, finally able to showcase the full potential of her beautiful, powerful body. Just imagine how exhilarating it must have been to dance with newfound freedom and flair! And from that point on, tutus began to become shorter and shorter, showing off a ballerina's physique more than ever. The era of long, concealing skirts was beginning to wane.
For this weekβs post, darling readers, I just have to tell you about the latest pink tutu sensation I found at a shop in Paris! You simply cannot imagine how it made my heart skip a beat! Picture this: a delightful concoction of blush pink silk, delicate lace, and ribbons cascading down in perfect harmony! Just beautiful. It truly captures the spirit of the changing times and reminded me just how beautiful and captivating ballet is.
And donβt forget, dears, itβs #TutuTuesday every week! Donβt be shy to join the pink-tutu movement, even if it's just for a day. After all, a little touch of pink goes a long way β even if it's just in your socks!
But now, I simply must rush off to catch a train back to my Derbyshire home β I'm hoping to have an evening of blissful tea and gossiping with my dear Mum.
See you next week for another wonderful #TutuTuesday adventure!
Love,
