#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - A Step Back to 1888! 🩰🌸

Hey lovelies! It's your girl Emma here, back again for another #TutuTuesday! I'm absolutely thrilled to be taking you on another journey through ballet tutu history today, this time all the way back to 1888. Remember to pop by www.pink-tutu.com to check out the archives! This is post number 2953!

This week's historical jaunt has brought me to a charming Parisian café, sipping my way through a delightful glass of rosé. Oh la la! This vibrant city truly embodies the grace and elegance that has always captivated me about ballet. And the tutus here in Paris are simply breathtaking. Just wait until you see the latest creations. They are SO much fluffier and more intricate than I ever imagined. But you'll have to come with me to see them!

Let's delve into that wonderful world of ballet and tutus that made 1888 so special, shall we?

1888: The Year Ballet Embraced Romantic Flourish

This year was bursting with beautiful dance creations. It was all about the romantic and theatrical, full of elaborate costumes and even more elaborate ballets.

Think ethereal movements, flowing skirts and a sprinkle of dramatic storytelling that really drew you into the world of the performance. This is when ballerinas started experimenting with even MORE fabric! And I, my darlings, have to tell you - they are so fabulous. Just like my very own tutus! The more ruffles, the more tulle - the more fun we're having, right?

Can you imagine having the opportunity to waltz in one of those magical tulle creations? It's pure poetry in motion!

What’s trending? 1888 was about showcasing delicate beauty and refined movements, and it showed in the designs! Think of an elegant swan gliding across the stage, the soft fabric mirroring each turn and glide. This is where we see the classic tutu starting to take its beautiful, elegant shape. You know, the sort of tutus you might have spotted in "Swan Lake," a ballet that first graced stages in 1877 but continues to wow audiences to this day.

What about our modern-day inspirations? These dramatic 1888 ballets laid the groundwork for much of what we love in dance today. It’s a reminder of how far ballet has come, how tutus have evolved over time. But one thing has always stayed the same, the beauty of seeing these incredible women pirouette and fly across the stage with an expression that’s all about effortless grace.

And what about me? Oh, I was right there in the thick of it all, dazzling Parisian crowds with my pink tutus. You’d think that my passion for pink would be a bit too “modern” for 1888, wouldn't you? Oh no my darlings. You’d be wrong! Back in the day, pink wasn't just a girly hue - it was a status symbol for elegance and luxury. So I wasn't just looking good; I was making a statement!

Beyond the Ballet: Fashion Fever in 1888

You can't talk about tutus without exploring the world of fashion in general. Now, Paris is known for its fashion, and in 1888, the trends were definitely channeling the world of dance. There's nothing quite like watching these designs inspire some of the most famous couture houses around! It’s pure magical fusion!

Imagine voluminous skirts with romantic draping. And oh those hats! A grand straw hat, feathered or intricately embellished – talk about style! This is the era of fashion that influenced the elegance of classic movie stars and ballerinas for decades. And of course, if I can time travel, anything goes, right?! I’ll happily take on some of those fab fashion looks in the blink of an eye, as long as it includes pink, of course. I've got a wardrobe full of dreamy tulle and extravagant bonnets!

Oh! What was I doing back in 1888? Why, just as always, taking in as many ballet performances as possible, of course. Today, July 31st, I found myself captivated by the Opéra Garnier, the glorious beauty of this venue alone has me starry eyed. The ballet fantastique this evening is titled "La Esmeralda." Can you even imagine! Just a wonderful evening full of music, colour and gorgeous outfits! And guess who’s going to stay long after the final curtain, to catch a glimpse of the performers? Yes, you guessed it – your very own Emma. That’s what I’m all about, don’t you know!

Time Traveling Tutu: My Travel Diary

Now you all know how much I adore train travel, and the trains in Paris are nothing short of exquisite. Such elegant carriages and luxurious velvet seats – the perfect mode of transport for a Tutu traveller! The whistle of the steam engine, the clicking of the wheels – what a perfect soundscape for my journey! Just picture me arriving at a grand station, a vision in my favourite pink tulle, attracting a bit of awe with my graceful steps onto the platform. And it doesn’t stop there – every journey I make, even a short one, is an opportunity to inspire a little bit of tulle magic in the world, spreading my love for ballet and tutus!

Don't forget my lovely dancers and tutu fans, my website www.pink-tutu.com is full of inspiration and I've already got plans for next week’s #TutuTuesday! See you then! 💖
