#TutuTuesday: A Pink Tutu Journey to 1888 - A Whirl Through Ballet History!
Hello, darlings! It's your favourite tutu-loving time traveller, Emma, back with another dose of #TutuTuesday and a trip back through time to… 1888! Can you imagine, my loves? The Victorian era, the world of corsets and petticoats, but also, excitingly, a world bursting with exciting developments in the world of ballet.
This week, we're leaving the modern dance scene (for now!), grabbing our trusty time machine – my very own pink tutu, of course! – and hopping aboard the train to whisk you back to a fascinating time when the world of ballet was changing dramatically. Oh, the stories I could tell!
A Whirl Through Time… And Fashion!Buckle up, my dears, as we journey to… well, where should we visit today? How about the bustling Paris Opera? Ah, the heart of ballet, where legendary ballerinas such as Marie Taglioni danced with grace and elegance. Did you know, darlings, that the very idea of the tutu as we know it, that ethereal and flowing skirt, was just being born in this very time? It was Marie Taglioni herself, a real icon of the ballet world, who famously shed her cumbersome and restrictive clothing in favour of a simple, flowing white tutu to reveal her astonishing technique and airy movements. Imagine how freeing that must have been, darlings!
Our 1888 voyage coincides with a boom in the world of dance. From Russia's famed Imperial Ballet, boasting world-class dancers, to the growing popularity of ballets like Swan Lake - a real sensation in this period, darling! - it was an incredible era for the art form. It seems ballet was quite the craze! Imagine being swept away by the graceful ballerinas and dramatic costumes of these ballet productions - it was just as captivating then as it is today, isn't it?
The Dance of FashionSpeaking of captivating costumes, imagine a time where the ballet's costumes, darling, reflected the wider Victorian style. Imagine corsets and bustle gowns! Oh, it must have been rather restricting for our ballet stars to dance in. Thankfully, by the end of the century, that stiff corseted look started fading out. Imagine! The freedom! The airiness of dance is all thanks to these brave women who broke free from the restrictions of Victorian fashion and embraced a style that captured the grace and fluidity of the art.
The tutu, though! It evolved drastically over the century, starting as a mere "tulle" (it was all the rage, darling!), before taking the stage in that grand romantic style, those billowing white skirts so familiar in the ballet world today. Isn't that just delightful? I think a little trip to the fabric shop and a spot of sewing, and a fabulous tutu-making workshop will be just the ticket for us, dears! Perhaps a vintage fabric? Think, the perfect mix of historical glamour and modern flair - so fitting for this era, darling!
Finding The Joy In Everything!Speaking of finding joy, don't you think it's lovely to be immersed in the history of ballet? Seeing how the tutu has become such an iconic symbol of grace, femininity and of course, pink (my personal favourite, darling!).
Remember, even as I navigate through the historical fashion changes of ballet, I'm always searching for inspiration for our modern wardrobe choices! After all, as I say, a pink tutu never goes out of style! You'll be happy to know I discovered some stunning inspiration today - an amazing Pink satin bodice with matching tulle skirt! This would have been right at home on stage during our era of ballet history. Just imagine it, my darlings, a shimmering Pink, the the vibrant colour of my soul and the perfect reflection of my heart!
My Favourites TodayThe French capital has never been short of stylish inspiration! Here are some of the delightful moments that brought joy to my heart today:

- *Catching a glimpse of a lovely ballerina training in a window at a studio. * Her movements were so precise, and elegant – a true testament to dedication. And she looked stunning in her little pink satin ballerina outfit, darling!

Today was a little glimpse into 1888 - a fascinating moment in time. A moment when ballet and fashion intertwined to create an exquisite visual symphony. This world of graceful dance and elegant style is always a journey to enjoy, wouldn't you say, darlings?
